So, as some of you may know, i have started a Bonneville project. And I did get frowned upon a bit, since I’m taking a full working 1967 Bonneville, and turning in to a sort of Bobber/cafe racer type of bike. Some of you would of course rather seen the bike restored to original, but that’s not going to happen. I am how ever keeping all the original parts, and I’m not cutting into the frame, or destroying anything. So there is a possibility that it some day will return to its original glory Any way, thought i would make a post here where I could let you guys see the progress of my work, and maybe get some feedback At the moment, i have taken the bike apart, and i have bought most of the parts for the build. So now I’m going to trial fit everything to see that it all fits like I imagined. Since I’m going to put on clip ons, i have been looking for å new top for the triple tree, but it doesn’t look like anyone has made that, so have have talked to a guy here in Norway who CNC motorcycle parts for custom builds, and you can have him make anything you like. So I have now ordered a new sett of topp and bottom triple tree, so it looks much more clean. Here are some of the first pictures of where I’m at now
Thanks Joe, I’m so excited about this, it has been a dream for many years to do this build, and now I’m in the position where i can finally make it come true
Your bike, your choice but I have one question. Given your fabrication skills why have you trashed its roadholding by dispensing with any rear suspension? Fine if it will only ever grace the cover of Bobber magazine and live in a museum but you could quickly regret it on the road.
I have to agree with Callumity on this. However realise its being done for your own personal taste which is ok, and will look great, But a hard tail is gonna be kinda Bad Ass in many many ways
Thanks, will absolutely try and get some pictures out every week. At the moment i work on the bike once a week, but hopefully i can do more as winter sets in.
I love questions I hear you, I know its “a bit” less ass friendly But, I’m familiar with this, a friend have a 69 hard tail that he bought last year, and i have tried it a few times. But, the bike will not be for the long trips, but for the smaller cafe runs, and for show So I know what I’m (or my ass) is getting inn to
Hope I’ll be able to harden that backend of mine But yes, this is a bit more for show then comfort...its the price i have to pay
I think it's looking cool. What you thinking for the front end etc. Looking forward to seeing it finished
Thanks, I’m keeping the original forks, wheel and tire. But removing the mudguard. New, and little bit smaller headlight with cap, and one instrument for speed.
