Taxed the T100 with a view of a ride round the Norfolk coast as from the 1st of April, still to bloody cold. Rant over. Bloody cold wind.
Agreed. I had the pleasure of picking up a bike with 2 new tyres to scrub in. Freezing cold and cold tarmac......didn’t get too far over. That’ll wait for another (warmer) day...!
I was out on the SS Wednesday evening and the temp dropped like a stone approaching dusk. Started out with my regular gloves on but switched to the heated gloves on the way home in 4 deg C.
Get yourselves some long Johns. I wear them for riding if the forecast is bright but cold and find them brilliant for keeping out the chill, especially the leggings.
15°! thats liners out and t-shirt temperature over here How's the wrist by the way? You ready for a bit of biking?
Threads like this make all the more thankful I live in the hi-desert. I think the coldest temperatures I saw on my daily commute this past winter were 34 degrees Fahrenheit; manageable with proper layers (and no precipitation). I'll say this much though, whoever invented battery-fired heated gloves deserves some kind of prize or award.
Meanwhile in southern Arizona and the Sonoran Desert today..... Don't worry, I won't get too smug. Soon it'll be blazing hot with temps well over 100ºF every day.
I find a modern thermal great for wicking sweat as well, after my skin not liking anything but cotton until recent updates
If only there was some sort of device that could be plunged into the mains and blow warm air? That would be awesome
I've experimented with many different materials over the course of my life, and I've yet to find any artificial fibers more effective than good old wool. Some of the new-fangled space-age materials may be slightly more effective at wicking away moisture, but I've yet to find anything that will keep me as warm as wool should it get wet (Norwegian and Alpaca wool seem to be the best in that regard for me), or as comfortable in a wide range of climates and conditions. Fortunately, I'm one of the world's weirdos that actually enjoys the feel of wool against my skin. Of course, as with many other things in life, your mileage may vary.
Was a bit perky up here last weekend but blue sky, so organise a run south straight into a big black snow cloud and 2c. WTF? Curtailed the loop and headed back only to get done again. At least I had my thermals, a big screen and heated grips. Matey was on "race" rubber and vented leathers. If he could have caught me he would have killed me (once he stopped physically vibrating) This weekend much more like spring thankfully.
