So you bikers think your intrepid travels, whether it’s nipping down to the hipster cafe bar,a Sunday rideout or a tour is a huge achievement Eat your heart out Ewan and Charlie. Well in the olden days us motorcyclists used to do things like this The First Round-the-World Motorcycle Ride In 1912, Carl Stearns Clancy undertook the longest, what was the most difficult and most perilous journey ever attempted on a motorcycle. By June 1913 he had made history, becoming the first person ever to travel round the world on a motorbike. https://www.madornomad.com/the-first-round-the-world-motorcycle-ride/
Humbled by his shear determination and skill given the bike technology and state of the world of the day
I think he only said it to impress a girl at a function/dance?! He said that he was going to be going around the world on a bike and then a guy (who was close and owned a bike factory) heard him and said he’d give him the bike to do it on. After that, he couldn't back down so off he went!! Women, ruin of us all!!! Especially @Havit .....
"On a motorcycle, every day is still an adventure and a new beginning. On a motorcycle, I am still a boy on a bike." Geoff Hill from the article. Feel good that those boots are in Anamosa, Iowa at the National Motorcycle Museum https://nationalmcmuseum.org/ It seems to me, people in the past were much more hardy and determined. Clancy faced much more dangers, sickness, war, bad food, no toilet rolls. He was tough and didn't give up. I would like to think we can learn something from his pluck, but I fear mankind has changed in ways that we cannot erase.
