Hi all, I am looking for a workshop trick to undo a very tight 46mm wheel nut (both sides).

2002 Triumph Speed Triple 955i, single sided swingarm.

    Rear brake wouldn't hold it.
Extra leverage just moved the bike (tried stopping the bike from moving), or even just turned the wheel even though it was on the ground. Tried chocking the wheel.

I'll take it to a garage with a windy gun, but otherwise just looking for any hints and tips...

    Cheers all...

The garage buzz gun is the best option...other than that a bit of heat and a good shock may do it...IE a good fitting socket or ring spanner and a big hammer.

    Thanks both....

I had a decent lever...but I didn't think of the front brake holding it too...good ploy... (This was done before I repressurised the front brakes)

I fear though that if the bike is 'held' there isn't enough weight on the rear wheel, and my lever will just overcome the friction of the tyre on the ground....

    but every tid-bit helps....cheers!

(Maybe I'll get my wife to sit on it - she has a huge "tid-bit") ;)

Personally i would use a buzz gun...in fact i bought one for the wheel bearing and crankshaft bolts on cars what wouldn't come undone using a 6ft scaffold pole,
Buzz gun (air impact wrench) does the same thing as whacking a socket with a hammer....only faster....and fat mate not needed.;);)
