In the end, I obviously disagree. Before I bought my Bobber, I did a very close comparison of the Indian and the Triumph. Don't get me wrong, I still love Indian, but the Triumph was the clear winner to me. We should also take in consideration that this is one of the only style bike that HD does. They definitely don't do Hi performance! After owning two Harley's I will say that in my opinion, they really do paint and chrome well. If you like polishing is your thing over actually riding!
While you're probably spot on, it's disappointing to think he couldn't be objective based on his origin. But...another factor could be, money talks, and he could have been paid for his "opinion". If that's the case, it's even more sad than the first scenario. I think one thing my brothers across the pond have to realize, is that we Americans are finally realizing that HD is dying and Indian seems to be the last best hope. Triumph is in a great position to fill a void, and I've never seen animosity toward British bikes. Mention Triumph or Norton to even the biggest redneck biker, and it usually hits a soft spot in his heart. At one time in my life, because of my profession, I was exposed to some of the not-so-nice members of the motorcycle community. At that time, people would sell tickets to take a swing with a sledgehammer on a Japanese bike. It's certainly not as bad as it used to be, but there are some who literally hate Japanese attempts at making a cruiser, or any other bike for that matter. While his bias could have been from the bike being American, I suspect it did, but I hope that it didn't.
Case in point. If you can get past his brash delivery, this is pretty good. This guy loves the Triumphs, although he still criticizes them a little:
Good read, he did announce his bias and only picked the scout with a gun to his head and then said he would change the whole “look” . My take on the review was Bonnie had better price, technology and rider position (especially if you’re tall) and he had trouble splitting them
I’m American and I can not stand Harley Davidson bikes. Nothing about them appeals to me. The stance, the tank, the style to me is shit. The writer of the article talks about how much he likes the triumph yet likes the Indian better. Come on, talk about biased! Triumph wins hands down and the sales numbers prove the Triumph bobber is the more desirable bike of the 3
The only thing I see a H-D twin good for is they would make a great air compressor. Two big low RPM cylinders turned by a REAL engine, pumping air into that fat gas tank. Never wanted one. Even for free. ...J.D.
What Harleys did you have, mplineman? Have you seen any of the newer H-D bikes? Nary a true bobber in the bunch other than the Street Bob. And that "bobber" is really nothing like the Indian and the Triumph bobbers. Check out the specs on this bike in the link below related to your comment that Harley's "definitely don't do Hi performance". I have a Triumph 2019 Speed Triple RS, a 2017 H-D Dyna Low Rider S, and a 2017 H-D Road Glide Special with a Stage IV engine upgrade. All have more than enough HP and torque! I love each one but for differing reasons. But each one is definitely hi performance! I just test rode an Indian Bobber yesterday at a demo day event. My opinion based on just that 10 mile ride? Meh..... I would look really hard at the Triumph Bobber, though. Love the looks of that bike but I've never had the opportunity to ride one. Our Tucson Triumph dealership has never had a demo day event like the Indian and H-D dealerships in Tucson do. Pity. I loved my Bobber, I only let it go as I needed to raise some cash for a new business. If and when finances allow I will have another in a heart beat. Gorgeous looking bike IMO, and so much fun from the way it pulls, handles and sounds. My only minor criticism was the small fuel tank.
Put my deposit down yesterday for a new Bobber TFC. This is going to be a change in riding position for me as I never had a relaxed, low seating position bike. Currently I have a 2016 Norton Commando SF and A 2017 Norton Dominator Naked. Did I make the right choice going to a bobber?
Only you will truly know if it is the right choice. I’m guessing you had a long test ride before you parted with any monies....
Wire-Wheels I'll have it. Harleys are still king of custom in my book and I love Triumph But if BSA rekindled the fire I would swap my Triumph for one. Regards Joe
