After years of riding sportsbikes ive just had a test ride on a tiger 800 as i am looking for an all year round bike with good comfort and luggage options. I found the tiger an absolute doddle to ride to suit my shortarse legs even although it was cold and drizzling, i started by going up and down my local dual carriageway at my usual speeds and found that it still had reasonable acceleration when overtaking etc. Then headed off to country backlanes to get a feel for what its like on the twisties. went over a pothole and thought the bike soaked it up superbly, so spent the next few miles going over all the potholes and grids i could find -something i couldnt do on a sportsbike. the triple is the smoothest engine ive experienced and although it doesnt feel fast, one look at the speedo tells me its picking up speed plenty quick enough for road riding. gear box is fab, pulls smoothly from 2k rpm and is really comfy. can see myself doing some serious miles on one, got back to the dealership , struck a deal, picking my new sapphire blue tiger 800 up next saturday
Congrats on the bike, nice to see some photos when you get it. Which one have you gone for, the lower road orientated one? I am a real fan of the Triumph Triple engine; I have a speed Triple and the mrs has a Street Triple and I think the 800 tiger engine is just a longer stroke version of the amazing 675 engine.
cheers rich, its the road version as i couldnt touch the floor on the xc and i'll mainly be on the road with only mild of road use
