Just been sent this from a friend who is rather more Norton than Triumph oriented. Actually, he happens to be probably THE world's premier restorer of Norton Manx motorcycles - and an all round super guy, to boot. Anyway, I had a quick scan read of this and thought it was worth sharing. Doesn't that motor look a bit like two thirds of the Street/Speed triple engine? https://silodrome.com/norton-atlas-ranger-scrambler/ I have to say that it does look really nice, though the side panels don't seem right somehow. Wouldn't mind a test ride though. Adie
love the look of the Norton Commando, but not keen on the looks of the Atlas..probably sell well to the hipsters though
"... probably sell well to the hipsters though" I thought exactly the same but then read this within that reveiw :- "The all-new Atlas Ranger is fitted with a 650cc DOHC parallel twin capable of 84 bhp and 64 Nm of torque (47 ft lbs). The engineers at Norton wanted to ensure that the new bike was a genuinely capable dual sport motorcycle – not a skinny-jeans-scrambler designed for asphalt and the occasional Instagram photoshoot on light gravel." Of course, that won't deter sales to people in skinny jeans or to people wanting "road use only" motorcycling .... uhmmmm ... that would be ME , then! But it does show the intent for the bike itself and its potential target market! Be interesting to see how sales stack up against the likes of the Street Scrambler.
Don't forget we've met you Jez mate. Pure hipster ... well compared to most of the staid old farts that make up our majority.
I agree its tall and the off road version has a 19" front wheel too 2019 Norton Atlas Nomad spec Price £9,995 Expected in dealers Late 2019 Power 84bhp (63kW) @ 11,000rpm Torque 47lb-ft (64Nm) Tank size 15 litres Seat height 824 mm 32.4" Dry weight 178kg
I notice that neither of them has a rear light - oddly. The rear mudguard/plate holder and light unit could end up looking like a complete afterthought.
@Dougie D don’t go mentioning the word hipsters on here one or two don’t like it https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/scrambler-1200.16183/
As I said in an earlier post, anymore than a mouthful is wasted, therefore for us Brits a 32DD will do nicley. I believe your girlfriend was called Norma Snockers!
Royal Enfield (Sahib) ......... or even AJS - they even do a Daytona ....... https://www.ajsmotorcycles.co.uk/daytona125-2
Always loved the Bonnevilles and Commandos in my youth, but find most scramblers are used like city 4x4 SUV. Nice specs and setup for off-road use and looks the part. 270 degree firing order sounds familiar
The paragraph you quote is the very marketing strategy that will pull in the hipsters that want to be ‘better’ than the other hipsters, ergo it will pull in sales from the very demographic that it is claiming not to be for. LOL
