The Trophy is almost 30 years old the dual headlight puts a large drain on the charging system and I would rather not have to replace the stator if I do not have too. The idle speed has to be set at just over 1200rpm with lights off turn them on idle drops to and even 1000rpm so using a bright DRL may just mean the stator lasts a few more years plus drivers today seemed to programmed to notice DRL's more than normal H4 lamps.

That is a good enough reason for me.

Sadly your correct the world is getting boring but I am not dead yet so I will carry on as long as I can I may not wear a cutoff any more still have both of my old denim ones covered in the badges can't get into either of them now yet they used to fit over my leather jacket.

The noise is only glorious to you. To most other road users it’s just annoying. Why anyone wants to be annoying to others I couldn’t say and don’t understand as I am not that sort of person. We have only had one lad come on a tour with a loud bike, when we stopped for coffee on the very first day he was told to either ride at the back or go away. He did ride at the back for the rest of the tour but hasn’t been invited to come again.

Plus it does as all no favours, just gives the numsculls in power more ammunition to hammer us all with more legislation.

Perhaps you would be better with an EV than a proper bike your tour "friends" as well.

Nah, we just don’t want to piss off other road users unlike yourself. What do you get out of pissing off others?

It will not matter what you do you will never appease them they will legislate bikes out of existence and will not be happy until they totally control everything in your life.

Just one of the reasons for leaving the Police state that the UK now is.

Well I simply enjoy the freedom that I have to choose. Plus people here are far more open about things though the fad of few years ago of MW's and Audi's with dustbin sized mufflers at the rear seems to have passed. The roads here are usually light with traffic though for some reason there was quite a lot of traffic in the city yesterday afternoon almost made me late for the physio appointment need to leave a little earlier this afternoon just in case.

Now I really do not care what your thoughts are but find it odd that motorcyclists are so agonistic just because someone does not follow their doctrine/brainwashing you would certainly stand out somewhere like the Old Kent Custom Show or the Bulldog Bash. I gather that you would never filter through traffic then as this often seems to "piss off" car drivers you must just wait in line like a "Good Boy".

Filtering here is not just normal it’s expected by car drivers. They even move over to let us through. Unless of course you deliberately go out of your way to piss them off. By say being annoyingly loud. I’m really happy that I would not be the be the norm at the places you mention as I really would not want to be like the people that attend these events. I have worked a couple as a medic though. Farmyard, storming the castle etc. it’s a little embarrassing to be associated with the ones that do attend them if I’m honest. Just why anyone would wear a denim jacket that has had the sleeves removed over a leather jacket I have no idea. It’s just weird. What purpose does it serve? None that I can see.

I came back to motorbikes in 2011 and joined my first forum in 2017. Now this is not a criticism of anyone, but....

I am always surprised at how "sensible/conventional/practical" (delete or add as appropriate, I can't think of the right word) bikers seem to be - the right farkles, the right gear, such careful servicing and maintenance...... blimey, on another forum there is a 3 page argument going on about the right way to ride round a corner!

As I said no criticism, but in the 70's and 80's I wore what I wanted, made bikes flash and noisy and maybe even changed the oil occasionally!!

    What a rebel!!

It protects the leather and provides somewhere to sew patches, badges onto. The British "Rockers" and "Ton Ups" of the 60's often covered their leather jackets with patches, badge pins and chrome studs when denims became cheaper it became common to remove the sleeves and wear it over the leather jacket leaving the leather clean ....................................... at least that is how I understand it.

The more I read your comments the more I believe that you have had a very sheltered existance.

I must try to be more open minded myself as recently when looking for a replacement leather jacket, a proper bike one not some fashion accessory, the sales chappie tried to show me the modern fabric jackets now 40 odd years ago I had a waxed cotton bike jacket this was for wet weather and fitted over my leather jacket as leather tend to leak eventually.when I insisted on the jacket being leather he was a bit shocked but I do not trust these fabrics ones to protect from a slide down the road like leather will that is if it's a proper bike jacket.

Unless caught out by the weather I no longer ride in bad weather there is no need for me to do so as for my leather jackets well when I first decided to get back on a bike the search for a suitable jacket began however it quickly became obvious that the prices were hugely increased from when I last owned a bike so I shopped used and bought colourful Red, White and Black by Hein Gericke a Pro Sport model that has built in armoured panels as well as removable armour. Now according to the various doctors that are and have been dealing with my condition this most likely saved me from a broken neck and probably my life. I am unsure where to get a equal replacement not locally that is for sure!

Now I doubt the this jacket would pass as a fashion accessory as it's just too stiff for that and it's not light either. Now I did buy a pair of flashy bike boots mainly white with some red splashes and black protectors have just washed them off and sadly the left boot has some damage and torn leather so will need to order a new pair come spring.

if you follow Ryan of FortNine on YouTube he has a video all about abrasion resistance where he is dragged along a road wearing leather and then wearing two different fabric types . The results speak for themselves.

Just watched it an nice to find that my thoughts are supported even proved to be correct and if one just stops to think for even a moment it's pretty obvious really as all the Racers still wear leather not some space ae fabric. Wonder how Sheene would have looked like after his Daytona spill if he had not been wearing racing leathers but some fabric I seem to recall that was a 180mph spill. I have seen those actual leathers as Suzuki has a sports centre near Gatwick in Horley and had an open day with Sheene , his GP RG500 and those leathers on display Barry lied about 3 miles from my parents house and I bumped into him more than once at the local pub "The Half Moon" in Charlwood now sure then were scuffed up pretty badly if I recall correctly as this was well over 40 years ago now.

Used to live in Crawley, saw Sheene in his Rolls Royce (4 BSR) multiple times on his way home to Charlwood riding the country lanes. Suzuki GB is no longer there, they moved many moons ago. I must admit I don't like wearing anything else on the bike other than leather, for the very reasons you list above. I have 1 textile jacket, for when I eventually get to go to Norway again, but it will be my Shoei leathers that will be on my legs.

Had friends who worked at Heron Suzuki Roger was in parts Trevor was in warehouse. Bet most people don't know that Heron Suzuki was also a Bultaco agency. Family moved from Povey Cross in 83 I lived in Horley then after dad's stroke in 2002 moved to Lincolnshire to help out. And Horley and Crawley are no longer recognisable to what I knew last time I was there was 2018 I still have friends in Horley and Crawley though of course do not see them due to the distance now.

Very small Tanyard Farm the house in Langshot Lane was my paper round for Fords newsagent in Horley that was back when I was 14 and that was way before they built that estate the hotel Langshot Manor was also on my route it was a private residence back then with a nasty dog so had to put papers through the kitchen window to keep fingers intact.

As you drive into Charlwood Road from Povey Cross junction heading to Charlwood there is an S bend left then right two houses on the left two bungalows on the right then a fairly large house that is Routh where we lived Dad paid around £29,000 back in 1976 for it now the second bungalow was Warwick Cottage the Bob owner of Mitcham Plating lived there.

Edit:- BTW Sheen also had a Porsche 628 I think it was.
