I ordered one for my Daytona 1200, and I was wondering if anyone had experience with them?

I know they are light, but are they worth it to you? Has it lasted? Is discharge time as fast as I hear some are claiming?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

You need a different charger for them too btw!
A lithium charger will only go upto 0.8 to 1 amp max as they charge slower and the normal optimate is too powerful.
Apart from that, nothing but good news (apart from not liking the cold too much).

I heard that about the charger...nonsense...if I can avoid the proprietary charger, I will...I already paid $156 for the battery...do they need a kidney next? lol

I have a Shido lithium battery and knew it needs a specialist charger when I got it - £120 for the battery and £100 for the charger

The charging method is very different to an AGM battery, the lithium needs a slow trickle charge whereas the AGM can receive short pulses of high voltage
If a lithium battery receives a voltage above 15v, it would be damaged and would be no more use than a paper weight.

Yes, in temps below 5c they discharge very quickly, and need coaxing into life to get the bike started. In the summer they are fantastic, in the cold, I replace it with a Motobatt AGM battery

Lithium batteries can accept up to 80% of charge in the first 40 to 60 minutes ! They charge faster than lead !! They Do Not Accept High Voltage !! So a 12.6 v lead acid can safely accept 14.5-15.0 v , lithium 12 v can only accept 12.5~12.8v if you want Longevity !
I had a Lithium ion battery in my 2008 America for ~5 plus years , it's now being used by my neighbour in his 12 HP ride on mower ! The battery still holds good Amperage , but the voltage is now suffering under starting/cranking loads , and as Triumphs won't Fire when the Volt's drop below 12.5~12.6 v. It had to finally go

    cheers capt

I have the Shorai in my S3RS - its never needed charging since I took the trickle charge off months ago.
If you have a basic charger without the desulphating?? mode its fine.
I have used an Oximate 600 with no issues .
No regrets so far after over a year of use.

Fair enough. It's your battery after all!

I've recently uploaded my Speed Triple's battery to lithium, along with a specific charger.

Charger about £50 from sportsbikeshop, does everything it needs to and significantly cheaper than a replacement battery. I've noticed it doesn't need to charge/maintain anywhere near as much as the old battery, and I've still got the bike alarm hooked up.

Haven't used the bike enough yet, however I've found it starts a lot better after short trips like to the supermarket/petrol station, cold starts seem OK with dipped beam on for a minute.

thats because it accepts charge quicker ... sucks in replacement ampere's much better than a lead battery !! it's why I went lithium !!!! I do a lot of short runs at times.. 1 to 2 km trips 3 or 4 times in a row...

lithium has no issues ... two reasons ... my lithium battery would do 30+ starts on one charge and it will accept all 30 amps the alternator puts out , it's the 14.5-15 v it has problems handlind.
i tested my regulator and alernator and Volts was a little low ~ about 13.8 but amps were fine...

I hope the hype is justified. I will certainly be happy if my experience mirrors everyone else's here.

The weight reduction of a lithium battery is certainly nothing to discount...

In very cold conditions lithium batteries sometimes need “waking up”, switching the headlight on for 30 seconds prior to starting should suffice, I’ve used lithium batteries for years and have nothing but good experience with them , this battery charger works well on all batteries, AGM, lead acid, lithium, and isn’t expensive, note when you select the charging function for the particular battery type you are charging hold the selector button down and let it cycle to the correct function, just pressing and releasing the button doesn’t always swap the function, this isn’t made clear in the instructions that come with it.

I bought the same charger a few years ago, works a treat - the lithium battery which was on my Daytona when I bought it in '17 is still going strong, touch wood. As you say the written instructions aren't particularly clear about mode switching, not helped when I confused 'genius' with 'smart' but luckily realised PDQ it wasn't switching from lithium to AGM by itself. There are videos on Youtube which give more detail if anybody needs them.

Just picked a Shido for the Street Triple from Halfords, LTX9 BS. Couldn't help but put the batteries on the scales, hope there is actually 20211115_140628.jpg 20211115_140720.jpg something in the Shido box!

Other people may have great experiences, but in the ned, the Shorai only made my Daytona 1200 go *click click click*. I put in a new Yuasa AGM, fires right up.

Lithium batteries just don't work with my bike, and I am not going to just keep trying to crank the bike and destroy the sprag clutch because I was too stubborn.

The Shorai is a paperweight and garbage, in my opinion. Total hype and a waste of money. I'm sticking with my AGM Yuasa!

Interesting phenomenon. I haven’t heard of that before. Are there any other characteristics of your set up that might shed light on why the Li battery was pants in your bike? Maybe temperature, auxiliary lights, etc.

Normally the Li has better cranking amps than Pb.
