Not good. Hopefully all the residents will get to safety and there will be a good outcome for everyone. I’ve got a friend who lives in Poynton where there’s been bad floods. I messaged him this morning to see if he’s ok and he’s told me he’s away with work in Cornwall this week and couldn’t get hold of his girlfriend to find out if his house is ok. Luckily, he got her a little later and all is ok. I wouldn’t put it past her to have not replied for a while just to wind him up!
Do feel for the peeps there. Glad there has bee no reports of deaths so far. I often wonder you know. Hardly ever get flooding around London and most of the home counties since they put in all the flood relief. Wonder where the sent the water sometimes. Regards Joe.
I suspect it's all a bit overdone by the media. The people who designed and built these dams were not stupid. They were built with bypass channels and release sluices so that water can be released from the dam and new water does not have to be collected, it can simply bypass the dam. The dam can be emptied at any time and kept empty. Just like in years gone by when there have been supposed water shortages. They kept visible dams empty (those by the roadside) but if you went on the moors away from the roads, all the reservoirs were full.
You just wait.... in three weeks time they’ll have a hosepipe ban because the reservoir water level is too low.
Heard a chap talking on Radio Manchester today who was a civil engineer and said he knew a bit about reservoirs. He said the problem with this particular one was the concrete casing put on in recent times, it had disintegrated. So it seems there is no problem with the original construction 200 years ago.
