... I'm sure I'm not going to be the only one, not with the lovely biking roads round 'ere. Evening all, Thanks for having me. New to the forum and new to Triumphs. Just bought a '97 900 trophy thats been parked up since 2012, and just starting the re-commisioning and fettling so I'm here for the wisdom, tips and tricks. I'll thank in advance all those that have previously contributed with the answers to the questions I haven't asked yet. Cheers Nev
Welcome in, if you don't find anything that's useful said here you won't be alone but you'll have fun looking!!
Hi grump, Im sure your enjoy your Trophy on some of them great welsh roads , good luck with the commission
Welcome oh Grumpy one! Right ... been off the road for 5 years has it? DO NOT TRY TO START IT/TURN THE ENGINE OVER ON THE STARTER without installing a good /new battery (Motobatt or Yuasa equivalent 190cca or thereabouts) if you want the starter sprag clutch to survive. Thereafter just the usual suspects - oil and filter change, possible coolant and brake/clutch fluid change. If it hasn't been done already install a 'fit and forget' air filter such as K&N, which will then show you why you want to do such a job only ONCE! When you get it going, put a goodly slug of Redex or similar in the petrol, which will help to clean the carbs and keep the rest of the fuel system clean. Yes, it really does work! Well, it does on mine. I guess thereafter it is down to general checks of spark plugs, brakes, tyres, chain and sprockets etc plus oiling and greasing where needed and anything else you can think of. Enjoy!!
Thank ye muchly for the advice. The previous owner had stuck a new battery on it, a drop of petrol in and fired it up before I got there to pick it up, so thats out of my hands now, but the rest of your advice is on the to do list.
A new battery, or a strong, well charged battery is a key ingredient to these bikes. I guess the previous owner new this. Hopefully one less problem now.
Hello from Treorchy, just up the Neath road from you and leaving plenty of rubber down on these fabulous roads with my Bonneville.
