Good afternoon people... Newbie from North East England, I currently own a 2004 955 Girlie Tiger which I've had from new... and a 2001 Thunderbird sport which i picked up on Saturday.... expect a lot of questions about this one as, although it's only done 290 miles from new (yes really) it's been stood in a damp garage for 16 years.....
Hi mate and welcome Don't listen to them mate all of us from the north east are the shy retiring type and you wouldn't even know we were there Whereabouts are you in the north east are you and how did you find the thunderbird with such a low mileage and how come I can never find something like that
Thanks for the welcomes Think you maybe right Wessa, the thing won't start. I've had the carbs off & cleaned them out, floats were stuck due to all the gunge in there. Put everything back together & won't go, got good sparks on all the plugs & they're all wet with fuel..... What am I missing??
Sussed it.... I looked down the plug holes while I had the plugs out & noticed the top of the pistons were soaked with fuel... probably from when I first poured some fuel in the bike & the floats were stuck, everything got flooded. So I turned the engine over a few times with the plugs out to dry it all out, put it back together and it started straight away.... After 16 years of standing she's running again
Hello Geoff and welcome to the forum Don't tell dilligaf where you live or you'll never get rid of him if you've got any alcohol around the place
It looked a bit sorry for itself when I got It, lots of elbow grease (And solvol) gone into that... just waiting for mudguard/indicator brackets to finish it off... they were badly pitted
Wow you lucky bug**r. How did you find that? If you don't mind me asking was it a bargain, I wouldn't know where to start with asking price pre elbow grease & non start
I bought this bike as one of a pair, guy I know has/had an original Suzuki GT750J the original one with the drum brake... he's had it for 35 years and it's been standing for almost 30 of them... the engine is seized and there's a bit of work to do to it. I've been trying to persuade him to sell it to me for almost 15 years... he finally succumbed 2 weeks ago but he said I had to buy both his bikes as he needs the room. My intention was to sort out the Triumph and sell it to finance the Kettle... however I've fallen in love with it now so it's here for a while
Welcome in Geoff ! What a beautiful bike ! I've got a guy that I am pestering for years now to sell me his '81 XT500. It's in immaculate condition and a one owner bike. No luck so far !
