Another Fuel Connector Issue.

I've recently acquired a '98 955i Daytona. While having the fuel tank off I replaced the o-rings on the fuel line quick connectors with the correct ones for the bike's VIN, supplied from my local Triumph dealer.
Now for the life of me I cant get the connectors to reconnect. The face of the right angle connector hits with the face of the fuel tank connector before I'm able to get the second o-ring to lock into place under the metal clip lock (have attached pic for reference). If anyone has any hot tips on what I'm doing wrong that would be greatly appreciated.
