I've just bought one of these compressors to carry around with me when I'm off on a trip. I'd like to change the connector, it comes with one of those cigarette lighter thingies. Although I've got one of those optimate charge leads on both my bikes I think in this case I'd like to put crocodile clips on the end. My question is, how do I decide which wire to put a red clip on and which to put a black clip on ? I assume it does matter ?

Take the old plug apart, one wire goes to the center pin, that is poss and the other is earth.

Red is positive , black negative.just buy a Hella plug.
It will then fit into the accessory socket.
No need to buy an Optimate lead just switch the socket over

Yes it's just that I've had issues in the past where the optimate plug hasn't worked. Even though it's tucked out of the way and got a nice rubber cap to protect it, if you ride through enough rain and shite eventually it does get in.
