    Hi All,
So i have just bought my first Triumph, its a 2008 America.
Absolutely love the bike but want to do a few mods etc. First is the indicators, have bought some bullet indicators but having problems when putting them on.
I did rear ones first but when I tried them all four indicators started flashing. I never have liked anything electrical so any help would be grateful.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Are the new indicators LED? If so you will need to fit a new relay - others will offer better guidance than me but I think that is the case.

Either that or add resistors to return the system to a balanced state

Hi thanks for reply, the indicators are bulb not LED as I wanted a straight and easy swap......ha!
Will fitting resistors overcome this ??

How many wires on the new indicators?

TBH if theyre bulb indicators then theyre either too low a wattage or there is something else about them.

Do you have a link to them or further information.

Normally when folks fit replacements they fit LEDS which are a much lower resistance which upsets the circuit balance, because they draw so little current the relay doesn't draw the expected current which is why they flash faster ....... normally this happens to tell you there is a bulb blown.

The description on those is misleading it describes them as both LED & Bulb at different points in the ad, I'm guessing that theyre actually LED's and youre going to need a new electronic relay or to add heavy Duty resistors to the circuit to make them work.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram and description of the indicator relay to try and work out the best way to sort this ?
ie is it a bimetal or electronic unit ?

    Ok mate here goes :)
I bought something similar for my speedmaster.....they were also advertised as Harley indicators and I had the same problem as your having
The ones I got had 3 wires on them so I had to remove one of them from the indicators to get them to work :) however they did what yours are doing
The solution for my bike was to get an adjustable relay but it wouldn't work by plugging it in  I then had to make 3 wires up so I could reverse the polarity by switching the 2 side wires over and mounting the relay close to the relay socket then when all connected up it was adjusted to get the blink rate correct.....been working great since then
    Hope this helps mate :p

Did you swap the polarity on the feed to the relay or to the indicators ?

    On the relay mate
I'm in the garage tonight so I'll lift the tank and take a picture and post it up for you

Sorry I took so long to post this but only got round to lifting the tank today I mounted the adjustable relay on the frame and made the wiring up then swapped the polarity over
    The blue and brown wires
    Hope this helps mate IMG_0325.JPG

(If you dont ask) How did you swap the polarity?

If you look at the relay at bottom...where the brown wire is...this contact would plug into the relay socket where the blue wire is....and the blue one would go where the brown one is....this according to someone on YouTube....an Australian doing it to his car reverses the polarity....I'm not sure if reversing the polarity is an accurate description of what is happening but it works
