..............Brussels didn't make us have this!!! Saw this in Science Museum store in Wroughton a few years back, Royal Enfield fitted with 1st trial ABS. Bit clumsy, don't you think?
It looks sooooh good I'm going to rip of that rubbish Bosch II inclination ABS and copy this miracle of plumbing - NOT !!!!
I sacked mine when she couldn't tell the difference between Putney & Purley, & Hersham and Horsham!!! Back to ME reading the maps!
What year was that? it must of been cutting edge technology for royal enfield 5 yrs ago and cost a fortune to end up in only one place where it is now, i wonder if it had a warning light abs failure
Probably late 50's, early sixty's. If you go to Melksham in Wiltshire which is not far away from the Science Museum store there is a military landrover dealer who has loads of tanks, experimental military vehicles, Saladins etc, he has a heavily clad truck that has a '5th' wheel that drops down underneath that has the Dunlop Maxerette ABS trial system that was developed for the Hawker Hunter, this truck tested trial Tarmac's for the future use on runways. Used at Hullavington I believe. Just having a look round the yard is interesting, he has some very rare vehicles rotting away! The Science Museum store is a gold mine of vehicles alone, the yellow Rolls Royce used in the film of the same name, aircraft, bikes, as well as machinery, only problem is they only open once, maybe twice a year if at all, usually with-out much notice, but they put on other activities too like huge model aircraft flying displays, the MODELS are so big they need CAA registrations!. 1 mark car shows like Ferrari etc. Check on the S.M. web site for any details. 1 of the best items..........................an Ariel Square Four straight off the road, onto a plate and stored! Should be used! The 'Squiareail' was the 1st bike I ever rode.................at 2 yrs old! Dad had one with a big egg shaped sidecar called a Bussman I think, he came home from work, stopped outsode the house and Mum put me on between him and the tank, then trundle off to the garage! Then he sold it and was given a poxy Vauxhall Wyvern from my Grandad! End of his biking career, but not mine!
I agree - bikes should be used. All the bikes at Sammy Miller's museum in the New Forest are capable of running even though some of them are one-offs.
