A 4 day trip to visit (former) relatives. By car, as time did not allow for biking. We flew to Edinburgh, and picked up our car.
    20220429_104655.jpg
We then made our way up to Braemar, were we'd meet up with Dougie, who'd been really helpful sorting out our routes. I even got to sit on his bike!
    IMG-20220427-WA0003.jpg
@Dougie D had arrived bearing presents:
    20220428_121122.jpg
Which was really nice of him...
    20220428_121146.jpg
All jest aside, really generous and much appreciated!

We had lunch together in "the bothy", which was great. Lovely outside seating and food.
    20220427_125903.jpg 20220427_125849.jpg
After lunch we had a good look at Dougie's bike.
    IMG-20220427-WA0004.jpg
We said our goodbyes and headed north to Inverness...

The next day we had a couple nice walks along Loch Ness and the river Ness. IMG-20220428-WA0008.jpg 20220428_113153.jpg 20220428_150307.jpg
And then had a nice lunch.

The next day it was time to get back to Edinburgh.
    Great scenery all the way.

It was excellent Dougie. No dog outside the inn - we would have noticed. A nice place and nice people indeed!

Looks lovely. We were there the same time Wim. I’ve been to Scotland more in the last year than the previous 57 years of my life. The more I go the more I like it….

They were on Ben Fogle's "Make a new life in the country" a few years ago, they have since made a big difference to the place, the big dog is usually in the fenced off area where you were sitting

What a terrific trip report, @Vulpes! It looks like you and Mrs. V had a wonderful time. I loved all the photos. What a beautiful place and your report and pics certainly make me want to go there. What's the story on the Kelpies? I really liked those. That and your "hotel". I think from my American perspective that could only really be called a castle. ;):joy:

Thanks for sharing your travels! And please tell Mrs. V she looks quite good on @Dougie D's Rocket! o_O So do you. Well, and so does Dougie.

The Kelpies represent shape-shifting water spirits - you'll find more info here. The hotel is Carberry Tower, built on an ancient estate, but the present mansion house was largely built in 1913. It has a beautiful arboretum with some stunning trees.

Nowhere near as posh as your hotel, Premier Inn at Dumbarton so we can vary our rides each day. My mate is good at planning routes so we say if there is a place we fancy and he does the rest:grinning:
Definitely will do the Kinlochleven loop and the Commando memorial this time

Our hotel was just a last evening splash mate, we usually bunk a lot less posh...
Dumbarton looks nice and central for daily ride outs. The kinlochleven loop is really nice, and the memorial impressive.
