Went for a ride yesterday now that the monsoon has ended and all was well but when I stopped to stretch my legs my 2003 995i would not start. I have no neutral or oil pressure lights and on pressing the start button the solenoid just clicks. Battery is fine and shorting across the solenoid does nothing as does bumping or jump leads. Had to get the bike rescuer out. Obviously an electrical fault - any suggestions?
Hi Phil, with no neutral light or oil light on I’d suggest either a faulty kill switch or the main power relay under the seat.
You’ll need to start just tracing the wiring through to see if there’s a broken wire or poor connection somewhere. I’d look at the wiring around the headstock first. Also check your earth points. I’m not sure if your model has one but some had a common earth block notorious for bad connections, located near the clutch side of the frame IIRC. Have you got a wiring diagram?
Took the tank off and wiggled lots of wires. Nothing obviously wrong - cleaned the earth connection and the neutral and oil lights returned. The bike turned over - hurrah! Unfortunately I broke the plastic petrol tank connector and now have to repair this before I can check if the bike really is working as am not sure if I found the problem!
Its a link for the "stupid plastic fuel line connections that screw into the tank!" I mentioned you for, didnt you buy one a few weeks ago?
Dozers Dad. You are a true hero. Any way bit of dog hair never hurt anyone. But sorry I can't make it now. Washing my hair not the dogs. And I am sure you are a great Chef. Better than some of those pillocks on the box. Regards Joe.
Was planning to change the plastic connectors when I gave the bike a service so pre-ordered them but discovered I'd got the wrong size!
Back on the road at last! New rear wheel bearings, injectors, vacuum pipes and all metal fuel connectors. Carbs balanced and its runs great. However - went for a test ride on a Tiger 800 XRX and just had to buy one - so trading in the 955i on Friday. Thanks for the helpful comments on here
