Hi A Family member has a 900 thunder bird that has a nasty noise coming from the cam chain area and hence 2 questions:

    1. Are the cam chain tensioners prone to sticking

    2. If its not a tensioner fault can the chain be replaced without splitting the crankcase.

I've only worked on my own 955 daytona which is fairly straight forward.

    Thanks

Quick answer yes and yes !
They can stick , take can cover off , loosen adjuster by removal , when it's out shake it all about , nah , just joshing , work the mechanism , it's oil pressure and spring operated. Start bike ! If it goes quiet quickly it's a goodun if not your due a new chain and possibly the tension guide plate !
