I picked the Thruxton up yesterday from the dealer, did 5 miles home. Then as the roads were dry today I thought I’d have a little spin out, 3 miles down the road and I thought I’d run out of fuel or engine seized. Bugger.....rear tyre flat. Fortunately I was 200 yards from my mates house so walked it in first gear to his. Found a piece of glass in tyre, obviously being on a tube it stood no chance....these Corsa Rossa’s must be soft as gum! Anyway I’ve learned how to remove and replace rear wheel......before I’ve learned how to open fuel cap ! £15 fix but a bit of a bugger !
It hasn’t got better. I’ve been out today. Done about 50 miles. The last mile before home the bike handing started to feel a bit squirmy, pulled on drive at home and tyre almost flat ! I did ask the lad when he put the new tube in if he had patched the inside of the hole I the tyre, he said it didn’t need it but my mate who does a lot of off-roading says he always reams the hole if it’s if any size and puts a “mushroom” patch in it just in case there’s anything left in the hole or a broken bit of bracing which might puncture the tube when it’s fully inflated and under load. Thankfully I got home this time Wheel out of bike again !
Ashtons99 Boy you are having a test with your machine. And I agree with your mate any thing going through a tire weakens the affected area or leaves debris there and should have a patch there to be safe. Don't forget it your safety at stake. Ride Safe Joe.
Second flat sorted. It turns out the first place had nipped the tube fitting it.....poor performance really. This time tyre patched on inside with a “mushroom” and new tube fitted.....and plenty of care taken not to mark rim. £15 so happy at that.
Yes, I dropped the loose rim in (I’m expert at taking the back wheel out/in now ! They plugged it and fitted a new tube. £15.
