Normally I do all my own spannering on my vehicles after the warranty has expired. However, this time I put the Striple into the dealers for its 4th annual service. At the time of booking the service I was quoted a price and was given a service schedule, as I queried what was included.

On closer examination there are two items on the schedule that surprised me. Both coolant and fuel hoses were to be replaced, irrespective of mileage.

On collecting the machine I was told that Triumph have changed their recommendations to examine and replace if necessary. This was prompted by my request to be given the replaced hoses for me to put on the shelf just in case a need arose in the future. And I was given a schedule, not the same as the one I had been given when booking, saying this is the one we follow.

Closer scrutiny of their second schedule revealed the same as their first schedule i.e. replaced, irrespective of mileage.

Not satisfied with their excuses for not replacing the hoses I contacted Triumph after sales team at Hinkley, whereupon they promptly contacted the dealer and put him right. So far the dealer has come back to me offering to replace the hoses with no charge for labour but I would have to pay for the hoses. By my book I was given a schedule of work which included the replacement of the hoses and a price.

Will let you know how I get on. but just beware that if this mandatory replacement of hoses is listed for my machine I'm sure it must be so for many other models in the Triumph range.

Yes it's on the maintenance schedule but is it really necessary? I think it rarely gets done. Have you seen the silly prices for the parts? Over £90 for the fuel hose alone. Doesn't seem to be a requirement for cars. But I agree Triumph dealers should follow the schedule and not make there own decisions.

It wasn't done on mine, but I use someone independent (a Triumph trained technician who started his own business).

Just heard from the after sales guy at Triumph and it looks as though he’s had another word in the dealer’s shell like who has confirmed that there will be no additional cost. Result!
