Another example of a 2016 Tiger 800XR that suffers from intermittent start issues that typical mechanics (Hood River Motorsports) are unable to isolate. New battery already, starter tested, already paying $$$ and no fix. Now being referred to factory mechanic with estimate up to $2k still no known solution, or even what the issue is. Will usually start fine in AM but every 7-8 starts will try but wont turn over. Kickstand up, clutch in, neutral, no throttle (normal will fire right up after a second or two). Turn key, lights on and pump whirls. Guhh-Guhhh-Guhhh-Guuh-Guh. Wont catch. Will jump start from car. Starts later, different and indeterminate time frame up to hours.

Think I would have a look at the starter solenoid or perhaps a starter motor. What miles are on the bike. You have to go through the wiring make sure all the wires are secure and clean especially earths and the starter button may need a clean.
Do keep us all in the picture. And I understand how frustrating a problem like this can be. Just stab in the dark but did they fully charge the battery before fitting as it really does matter it needs to be fully charged. Also if you can get a battery wit more amperage it will boost that start and do make sure you system is charging fully. The other thing about these independent garages is they just want you cash and it seems quite a lot of it. I take my bikes to a proper authorised dealer and have found they will give a discount if the bike takes longer to fix or a loan bike.
    Regards
    Joe.

Thank you for looking at it I was hoping it might be the starter bushing issue, but I just talked to the tech and he says the immobilizer light is on and I will have to take it to a Triumph dealership in Portland and let them put it on their machines. They are planning on charging quite a bit it appears, and will have a 4-6 week turnaround so my riding season is shot. Wish I had never seen this bike. It has 17k, I got it last season and rode maybe 1000 miles on it before this stuff started. It stranded me in fall, one of my last rides, so I bought a new battery and waited for this spring. I have ridden it 4x and it stranded me again the second ride, and the 4th ride (my final). This bike is a total lemon. Triumph has really dropped the ball on this and doesnt deserve the kudos it seems to get, imo. I just cant find any justification for such a fundamental flaw on this type of bike. Starting problems?? COMEON

You can get the tune ecu and disable that immobilizer I am sure you can. Some one on here with more knowledge might correct me on that.
    Regards
    Joe.

Seems to start now with a weird sort of spinning clattery-clanging sound
