I know, I know, there is prob a million threads like this but couldn't find any...

Upgraded from a Speed Triple 2013 to a Speed Triple S last year that I spent a decent amount of money on getting pimped to how I wanted it.
Now, I do love the bike but there is two things I do seriously dislike on the new bike compared to the old one.
    • The suspension, have tried so many settings but its just very bouncy and far from how my 2013 acted. Changed the old and while it made it slightly better its still not good.
    • The Gearbox, its not as tight as the old one, not a mayor problem but still.

So considering getting myself an RS with the Öhlins suspension, I have about 4-5 trackdays a year and after trying a Tuono Factory and seeing how that behaved (2018 non active) I realise what a difference a good suspension actually do for the ride.

    So....

Has any done the journey from a 2016/2017 (s or r) speedy to a 2018/2020 RS?
    Whats your thoughts?

    • Better gearbox?
    • Suspension?
    • Is the 10HP a big difference (i ahve the 3:1 lowboy today with a good map)?
Looking at maybe getting a 2021, one of the last 1050 produced new, but its still a huge chunk of money in between. Would you say its worth it?

    Any input is welcome.

    I went from a 2017 S with lowboy to a 2018 RS

Not much difference in the gearbox other than the up/down QS on the RS.
Suspension wise, standard the S was better on the road, the RS is initially fairly stiff, but adjustment helps.
The 10hp makes a difference, it's primarily the quicker pick up rather than the extra 1000rpm that made the difference.

A big difference I noticed between the two was the S Traction Control would cut in a lot earlier than the RS and was a lot more intrusive, the RS's TC is a lot better set up even on the road.

I thought it was worth the difference, I was a lot happier with the RS than the S .

    Great input, really appreciate this.
Not sure if there is anything wrong with my suspension to be honest, its just very bouncy and nervous on the road.
Interesting to hear about the Traction Control, I do put it in trackmode everytime I start or even turn it off fully (the tcs).

Nice to hear that the 10HP makes a difference too.
I will miss the lowboy system tho, think it looks great and makes a lovely sound.

Yea, I was just eyeballing that one and another version of SC, the Austin Racing could be an alternative too.
Had SC on my old old bike and they felt like decent quality and sounded good.

I used to use Rider mode and turn off the TC myself all the time.
I liked my lowboy too, while it's not quite as nice, the std system on the Speed RS doesn't sound too bad...
On the plus side, you keep more midrange compared to the stubby pipes.
(Ignore the crap throttle control, haven't done a trackday for years...:D)

Looks like you are pretty at home on that track, what track is it?
And is that with the baffels out (I saw a thread with someone that had made some exhasutpipe surgery and got them out)?

It's Cartagena in Spain, it's a bit tight and twisty, probably better suited to the Street RS I have now which I'll probably take next time.
Std pipes with baffles on it, only thing non standard was a steering damper :)

Looks great. Which steering damper did you go for? Do you have a brake lever guard? I'm booked in for Brands GP 5th May. Did Donington last year it was great on my RS.

I fitted a Toby one (it's in the for sale section as it didn't fit the Street ;))

No brake lever guard, it's all a bit more relaxed over there, no noise restrictions etc.
