2014 T100 Rear Wheel 17x3.5 Swap To T120 Wheel 17x4.25

    I read a post on a different forum that was never concluded regarding swapping a newer t100/120 (17 4.25) wheel onto the t100 bike that has a stock 17 3.5 rear. To start, I already know the wheel hub and axel bolt, sprocket, chain, bearings are all entirely different. I’ve gathered the appropriate front sprocket for my 2014 t100 to do the 520 conversion, as well as the proper rear sprocket for the 6 bolt pattern 17X4.25 t100/t120. That much is fine.

    The newer t100/t120 axel does not fit the t100. And the 2014 t100 axel runs a smaller diameter from the newer t100/t120 wheel bearings. I have not yet tried fitting the 2014 t100 wheel bearing (and spacers) into the 17x4.25 wheel... that’s the next step.

    Can anyone direct me here without the shameful, condescending comments or questions?

    The reason I'm attempting to do this is because I bought my first triumph from a local dealership; love the bike. Just went to change tires and 2 years later only now realized that the rear wheel on my bike is NOT OEM..... It’s a 16. The rest of rear entire assembly is surprisingly oem however, so seems they found some wheel to work with this setup; needless to say I was not happy with this discovery and the most immediately available wheel is this 2017 t120 wheel I have.

    I don’t know the newer t100/t120 wheel bearing outer diameter. I don’t know the t100 wheel bearing inner diameter. Both of these specs would be helpful....... any legitimate help is immensely appreciated guys n gals.

    If I have to order a custom wheel bearing so be it, but I don’t even know where to start given my situation, and yes I’ve spent hours on bikebandit.

    UPDATE:
    Alright gents, looks like I'll continue to share my findings in hopes of helping someone else (if this ends up working out it's all documented here). Here's the deal after hours of research:

    The 2016 - 2018 rear wheel has a different hub assembly (duh, given away by the sprocket being mounted with 6 bolts vs 5), however the internals are the exact same parts as in the 2014:
    on the 2014 Bonneville T100 (bikebandit) diagram this includes parts 14 (bearing ball 25x52x15),15 (seal oil 35 52 6),16 (hub casing bolts),17 (clip int 52x2)...

    I already knew from my findings that the 16+ axels were larger (didnt know what diameter however, sad I couldnt just find this online with a quick search) as well as the ID to the wheel bearings.

    On the bike diagram for my 2014 Bonneville T100 black the following are what I noticed... Parts 2, 3, 4, 5 are all the essentials to the actual wheel itself (spacer, bearing, seal oil, clip). What I immediately noticed is that in the older 2014 and prior bikes the bearing says "Bearing 17 47 14", and on the 2016 and newer T100/120s its "bearing 20 47 14". This was the immediate confirming bit of info, so I took my calipers to the ID of the 2016/17/18 wheel bearing 20 ID, and 47 OD.

    So... the first number on the wheel bearing I assumed reflects the ID of the bearing I later confirmed when comparing the part for my 2014 (part 21 "spacer stepped ID 17" also known as the tophat spacer on the 2016/17/18 with the 20 ID. The difference between the two is pretty clear, so without having access to the 2014 bearings and spacers to fit into my 17x4.25 wheel. It's looking like the measurements of all the bearings are literally the same only changing the ID from 20 down to 17 for my model (and earlier EFIs T100s).

    Just ordered all the parts and am hoping this will work. I'll try to update since no one else here has posted about this; however, I can foresee running into issues with the rotor size and/or caliper mount next. Either way, this route is still exponentially cheaper than buying a new OEM wheel kit for a t100 black, AND I'm upgrading to the 520 chain/sprocket conversion while in the process (and potentially wider rear tire).

    Fingers definitely crossed on this one.
