Hi all, if anyone has upgraded from the 2011/15 Speedy to a 2016/17 I'd be interested to know how much of an improvement they are, any pro's or con's too, many thanks.
I had a 2015 speed triple r, now have 2016 speed triple r. Apart from the tec changes, there's not much difference. Personally I wouldn't change, I don't like bikes overladen with technology. 2016 onwards you can't plug in an Obd reader, so can't turn service lights off/map anything. The 2016 rides better (in my opinion) but not that much to change.
That's useful info topbanana, I'm running a 2015 and have recently had it on the dyno and tweaked to 138 and love it, I've spotted a 2016 R at a good price and was very slightly tempted, hence the post but didn't want to do something I'd regret, thanks for your opinion.
We have all done it Dave, that is, been happy with our bike but hankered after the newer wiz bang model! I have ridden albeit only short test rides the 15, 16, 17 and 18 Speedies, I would say in my humble opinion that there was not a massive difference until the 18 (RS) model, and looking at the problems I have seen on here with the 18 RS, I am not sure I'd want one. If the switchable modes/TC etc are your thing then maybe, but will you use/need them?
Agree with Billy and Topbanana. I rode a 16 while mine was serviced and there was barely any difference other than the “couldn’t make its mind up”on part throttle, and that was before I had mine “Hilltopped” Have a go on one as has been suggested, I wouldn’t bet too much on you keeping your 15 ( especially after it’s been “tweaked”)
Had the Tiger Sport 2015 (old engine)/2016 models and the Speed 2017/2018 models, so seen the differences between them. Biggest differences are better gearbox and FI on the 2016 on. Hilltop can sort the FI, it's just a case of if you can put up with the gearbox. There other incidentals* but really, in this case, it's mainly down to the chassis and engine as to whether the bike is worth changing or not. *One reason I went for the Speed RS was the cruise control, although the main reason was the engine improvements.
Have to say Bill I'm in the mindset of the simpler things of life so the tec side of the 16 plate wouldn't draw me, I think I'll be sticking with what I have to be honest.

Don't blame you Dave, it always seems to cost to change, sometimes you have to weight up if what you are getting is worth the extra money. For instance, I swapped a 2012 Street R for a 2017 Street RS, I sold the R privately for £5,300 and bought a used 2 week old RS complete with Arrow Can/Tail Tidy/Bobbins etc for £9,500. So £4,200 to change, was the RS it worth it? Probably not, the Street R was a hoot to ride, the RS was slightly better as everything but £4,200 better ... no. But when the new bike bug bites it normally removes all sensible thought processes about value for money etc!
It's the trouble with winter setting in I think Bill, less riding time so more looking on the interweb time, then you put the rose tinted glasses on and the next thing you know, lol, luckily I'm the type that weighs up, considers, then weighs up again, which has helped make the sensible decision on more than one occasion, my speedy will be staying I think.

I’ve a non ABS 2012 R, twist the throttle, pull the brake, pull clutch in and change gear. Don’t miss the electronics I havnt got, plus less to go wrong! Mine is a fair weather toy, however if I had to ride through the winter, ABS, TC, Rain mode and fly by wire throttle would be an advantage.
