just brought 2008 fuel injection T100 with less than 200 miles on the clock I drained out the 5 year old fuel, replaced with new connected car 12 volt battery with jumps leads. Bike started straight away, but seems to have misfire ran for approx 3 mins Then just stopped running, starter turns over but will not start now. I am thinking fuel injectors clogged with old fuel or has the car battery used to jump start the bike overloaded the electrics Any suggestions please
If you had done anything wrong at the jump starting it would have died then. Does the battery show any charge ? Check fuses ! It may have gone out of Voltage range whilst trying to charge the battery , it can happen with very old batteries that seem OK, ie show 9 or 10 volts or more, they can be sulphated up and give very high resistance to charge, and cause regulator and alternator to pump out more than 15 volts then fuses blow.
Thanks will get new battery and check fuses The battery was and still is completely flat which is why I used the jump leads When it was running I disconnected the jumps leads and it started to miss fire
That would seem to be a big clue. Before you fit a new battery, may I suggest you put it on charge irrespective of what the supplier says about it being "ready for use". You've no way of knowing how long it's been standing around since manufacture and in any case wouldn't you want to start with it being in tip-top condition?
Hi biglad, It's like pulling teeth ! Find out what's wrong on the third post !! That battery was flat """ it was long dead and past any chance of resurectance !!!! I am surprised it only misfired a few times &&& then stopped, I would have expected any motor hooked up to a battery dead for that long , to have backfired once and stop immediately the jumper cables were unhooked !!! Bike must have a good Alternator & Regulator - is all I can say..….. !
Hi and welcome to the forum. That sounds like a real find with only 200 miles on the clock. Along with the 'electrics' recommendations you need to definitely use new fuel and clean out the fuel system. Fuel does deteriorate and 'gums' up pipes, jets, injectors etc.
No it was something t100prk was putting up prayer beads and smoke for, Jesus was resurrected, no chance of that for an inanimate object !
Once you get the new battery fitted and start the bike, I would suggest that you also check the charging system is still functioning correctly after the episode with the dead battery or it could end up causing more damage ( in case voltage regulator has been affected ).
Th Think you may have [picked up on an old thread there Oldyam. Its to be hoped he has managed to get it sorted since January, but maybe not ?
Weve all done it mate! You never know though, he might not have got it sorted yet ? Its good if the starter of the thread does take the time to let others know the result though.
