Hi all, I'm new here so take it easy on me lol.

The last time I was out on my Daytona 600, I noticed a small leak coming from the left hand side of the engine, leaking down over the crank casing.

I have removed the failings to try and locate the leak.

It appears to be originating from the pipe that enters the engine next to the coolant drain plug.

One of the bolts holding the crankcase cover on is fouling on the coolant pipe and the leak seems to be originating from there.
Has anyone experienced this before or seen this before?

    Thanks

    Chris

There's some serious corrosion there ! You need to get in there with a stiff (nylon) bristle brush or soft (brass) brush and get that area clean and clear to view ! Then run engine until fans cut in and look closely at that area to spot the leak. It could be corrosion externally on the aluminum pipe coming out of the thermostat , or rubber hose perished !

The leak is definitely coming from where the pipe is contacting the bolt/ crankcase. I had the bike running tonight up to temp at idle with the fans kicking in and that is the exact point of the leak.

My main concern is replacing the damaged pipe to just have the same thing happen again. The pipe contacting here surely isnt right?

OK , if its the rubber hose replace it as it's possible it has lost a lot of the materials bonding properties , Rubber coolant pipes can with age and many cycles of heating and cooling , lose integrity in the rubber to belts internally ! They become porous , the external layer is the final "seal" . It looks to have swollen and rubbed thorough on the bolt head there ! Or scenario two , the alloy around the bolt has oxydised and it's leaked past the threads ???

The hose is past it’s best and has bulged out causing the leak :(
Replace the hose and your good to go :)

Thanks folks, I'll get a new hose ordered up. I wasn't sure if that was its standard size or not.

    Thanks for the help

And I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a build up of corrosion on the aluminium where the hose attaches, hence the bulging seen in the pic. Clean all that off whilst being careful as there’s often a small ridge that the hose clip goes over, if you see what I mean.

Perhaps there is room to move the jubilee clip to ease the clearance a little. Normally there is a couple of places it can be located.

Edit. You may be able to put the clip between, the hose and the bolt.
