Traded my xj600 for a t595 not running. Last owner stated he couldn't get the bike to idle and bought a new pump then realized the plug was bad (most likely dirty) so he ripped the plug off the harness and just shoved the wires in the male end on the side of the fuel plate and said it worked, do I believe him no or else he'd be riding it . The first thing I did was take anything fuel related apart and clean in my ultra Sonic cleaner and replace the filter. I then realized that all the lines to the ivac system were missing, there was nothing running to the inlits on the tops of the TB's BINGO. I bought a whole unit all lines included off eBay. everything is back together and have replaced the fittings on the fuel plate with the metal ones from QUICKCOUPLINGS.NET. I noticed the battery was wrong so I have to hook it straight up to my truck for now, it will turn over when the battery is disconected and main wires are attached to jump cables. The right side of the fuel rail goes to the bottom fitting on the fuel plate and the return or left side goes to the top. I attempted to turn it over and nothing. I took the return line off the plate and took the fitting off since it's preasure valved and no fuel is flowing out of the return. My guess is that the wires for the pump were backwards and actually pumping the wrong way. Will attempt to switch. I tested the relay with an external battery and multimeter to check resistance as well as the clicking. Relay is good. I then sprayed starter fluid into the air box to see if I was getting spark and it popped and started for a second. I've also noticed the bike won't turn over unless the clutch is pulled in, even if the kick stand is up or down and it's in neutral.

So I've removed the gas tank and put a spare battery with wires up to the fuel wall and plugged them to the fuel pump. The pump turns on and I can hear it humm. I then tested the wires coming from the harness to the fuel pump and they're only running .05 at 20 DCV when I try to start it will fluctuate from .04-.05. rI Ithen Jerry rigged the wires the into emovedthe plug PURPLE ON return TOP. I then detached the return line and the fitting and attempted to start and no gas flow. Then I took the flow out flow line and blew into it and fuel sprayed out the return line. I'm guessing the wires aren't providing enough power to the pump.

I'm also wondering what these two wires go to the first plug comes out of the harness where the plugs that go to the fuel injectors straight across from where the fuel pump plug comes out. The second wire is long and comes out of the harness down near the starter solenoid.

What you need is the complete wiring diagram and the workshop manual of this model. Disassemble the vehicle electrics including the wiring harness and all components as a whole and test each individual part separately. It can not be ruled out that several defects are hidden here. As it looks like, there have been several tinkering with the electrical system in the past. The defect could also be hidden in the harness itself, as electronic components could also be hidden, but you can only see them when you cut it open.

Remote diagnostics are always difficult for someone who does not know the motorcycle from his own workshop. Two golden rules should be strictly adhered to in this situation:
    1. Be critical and generally don't automatically assume anything.
    2. Never speculate, check meticulously every little thing, even if it looks harmless.
What I see here for sure is that your bike as a whole is not in good condition and could probably need a major overhaul.

Hi Daniel, if you give us the wire colours on those plugs I can check a wiring diagram.

The first one looks like the spare plug used for the California only emissions gubbins.

The first one is yellow with an orange stripe and orange. It comes out right next to the fuel injecto plugs but looks different. The second plug is a three wire and it has orange with a black line and then two orange. It comes out of the harness next to to the solenoid and has a very long wire

Well the first one certainly looks like the Purge valve connector but my wiring diagram shows that it should be Yellow/Red and Brown/pink wires. This is a plug that isn’t used on most bikes (Cali only) and just lays behind the TBs.
The second one, I can’t find those colours on my diagram (Triumph workshop manual)
The only Orange/Black wire is from the ECU to the EML on the dash. I think you’ll need to have a closer look at the wire colours. ;)
The only 3 wire plug I can see is for a road speed sensor.

So the colors are brown with white or tan stripe, orange with white, lightish orange with black.

On my diagram, the road speed sensor wire colours are:
    Pin 1 Pink/Black
    Pin 2 Orange/Pink
    Pin 3 Brown/Pink

The sensor should be mounted on the side of the swingarm so should give you an idea for the cable length.
I think this is most likely the plug you’ve got there but have a look at the manual link @sprintdave posted.

Well look at this hack job the white and green wire and the white and pink. (Not sure if the colors are right they're pretty faded. Are coming out of the starter solenoid and just lighlty wrapped around this black with white stripe wire and white with red stripe wire. Are these supposed to be attached but with actual plugs?

Yep, looks like there’s been a proper goomer playing with your electrics.
Probably a good idea to have a thorough check over the whole loom before something goes up in smoke. o_O
Have you got yourself a wiring diagram?

Yes everyone has sent me one but I'm to simple minded to find anything or understand it. I just get frustrated lol

So after many hours of frustration I've realized that 1 the solenoid must be after market and the two wires comi g out of mine are just like the two prongs coming out of the stock OEM one. That will be replaced with OEM. Number 2 I realized that I'm getting power to the fuel pump relay it not to the fuel pump plug I then realized that the coil packs run on the same purple wire and remembered that when I sprayed ether in the airbox it started roughly. So that makes me believe I have a short where the purple branches off from the coil packs.

Well I am happy to see I found my problem there was a tooth missing on the ECM it was lodged into the main harness plug. The two ECM wires going to the relay were switched from the last guy. I've put a used ECM in and I have power. Now it's time to upload a map
