    Hi all.

I've recently come into possession of this bike and not really ever owning a bike this old wanted to learn a bit about it, specifically what is original and what is non-standard or has been changed / upgraded.

V5 says it's a 1963 TR6 with matching numbers and original colour is correct. I thought all TR6's were USA only - so is this an import? I also know it's been upgraded to 12v with electronic ignition and has a later type front end - 1967 I think.

    Any tips much appreciated.

Hi, great looking bike :). A quick look at the pic's shows a few things to help you out with what you have. Original colour for 63 should be Regal Purple and 63 bikes are known as TR6 SS/SC in the UK and USA, TR6R only came along on later models. Looks like you have a 63 frame n forks with 69/70 front brake, your engine is a 70 or later as it has the open crank case large breather and later Amal concentric carb and the balance pipe on the exhaust was not fitted until 69, the silencers are after market reverse cone megaphones. The fuel tank and badges are 66/67/68 as 63 had the original mouth organ type badge and the mudguards are the later rolled edge type and not the standard razor edge. Hope this all helps as to what you have and enjoy your new bike.

    Many thanks mate.

What, if anything, should I replace or rectify? Is there anything that is should;t be as it is? Sounds like a mutt bike - is that seen 'bad' on the vintage Triumph scene?

Lol, it all depends on who you are talking with as there are as many rivet counters like me as there are those also like me that like any old Triumph :) As to what to change only you can decide :) PM sent.
