Thruxton 12 months complimentary break down cover

    I bought my Thruxton 12 last November from a Triumph dealership, it was a privately owned bike, not ex-demo, with 542 miles on the clock.....and it had a full service history!.....service booked fully signed up with supplying dealers pre sale checks and its 500 service details.

    Part of the package of documents given to me on purchase was a document saying that it was covered for the first 12 months with a breakdown cover set up by the Factory in cahoots with the RAC. That's great I thought, I'll just call the Factory and ask them to change over the ownership details........'Sorry, you need to call the RAC to do that' they told me.

    'Hello, RAC?.....Hi, I'm the new owner of this Particular Thruxton, please change your records to show that if I call you within the next 7 months you'll come and save me!'

    But, no can do they say......'the policy only covers the first owner'

    Now, surely the breakdown cover is for the bike.....for the first 12 months of its life. The Factory has bought and paid for a service to cover that machine NOT the owner(s)

    Now my reasoning is that if the bike is a bonafidi machine, with a full service history, that cover should be transferable to whoever owns it within that 12 months period whether that be one owner or two or three etc etc......

    What do you guys think?

    .....anybody on here got a fast track into the Factories hierararchy so you could pass this on for me please?

    My rac covers me in any vehicle, but you're right that should transfer with the bike, it would be interesting if the rac are still covering the original owner!!

    hi DD, I'm not stressed, I'm just fed up with having to experience yet more complacency from folks who just say ...'the computer says no'........rather than dealing with people who can think in a clear, logical and pragmatic way that would result in no further expenditure by anybody and thereby creating a very happy customer who would willing then put their hand in their pocket to continue with the breakdown cover at the end of the first term.....i.e., building customer loyalty.......should pleasing helping and inspiring people really be this difficult?.......


    Is there anybody on the Forums admin team who have an 'in' to the Factory to pass this issue on for me please?

    ....the cover was part of the unsolicited package that Triumph was/is giving to the first buyer of their bikes, nothing to do with the dealer.....it just seems an easy thing to pass onto the next owner of the machine if that ownership change takes place within the machines first 12 months of being on the road and the machine is up to date with all its services/Factory recall etc.......a nice to have if it breaks down at the side of the road.

    It will not stop me enjoying my bike, I can afford to take out my own private cover but how simple and how powerful in building that 'feel-good' factor, customer satisfaction and turning me into even more of a 'Triumph evangelist' it would've been to just allow me the remaining 7 months of the cover.

    It's not giant leaps forward, it's incremental improvements that make people/Brands at the top of their games to get better......I see this situation as an incremental improvement that the Factory could adopt at no cost financially but worth how much in building customer loyalty and satisfied owners telling everybody else what a great brand Triumph are?.....or am I just being too altruistic?

    ......sorry, meant ask about the Tesco Club Card/RAC link-up......we are regular Tesco shoppers and have a Club Card, please explain in more detail what I have to do to get some cover via that route.

    You can exchange your "points/cash coupons" for heavily discounted stuff. You have to register with Tesco club card rewards, look here

    They created the package so can add any rules they like, i guess. I have a joint RAC anyway but when I got a puntcher I used the tri one to save on no claims or whatever, I'm paying stacks more than double d though.I always haggle but forgot this year. I might try to get some back.

    .....already this afternoon I have 'been in robust constructive discussions' with the folks who are supposed to be fixing an alleged damp problem on our camper.....less than a year old, cost far, far too much and they ended their defence with the classic line.....'they all do that sir!'....grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

    ....followed by a similar sort of 'chat' with the local Mercedes garage where I bought Mrs dickydido's Smart Car from. I went in two years ago, cash in hand to buy it outright. 'Sales Johnny' says to Mrs dickydido, 'you don't want to do that!.....you want PCP'......now two years down the road, they are telling us how much it's not worth any more and how little they want to allow us on it against another Smart!......my fist is cocked and steam is coming out of my ears!......

    ....so, I thought I'd save the pleasure of discussing this transfer of breakdown support again with the Factory for tomorrow!!!.....and many thanks for the number, I'll keep you posted as how the discussion goes.....

    Called the Factory, seems it's the Warranty Department I need to talk to, but, sadly, they had already cleared off for the W/E!.....

    .....but they are back, with their noses on the grindstone at 8:30am Monday so I will be calling them then.

    Yes you should go back to Hinkley and put the point accross that you said here that they have purchased a whole year from the Rac regardless of who owns the bike. Hope you get more joy than I did putting Hinkley customer service to the test. !!!!!!!

    Yahooooooooo!.......result!........unlike the 'bums rush' I was given last time I called, I actually got somebody who was on the case this time.

    I called The Factory on 01455 251700, that's the main switch board and asked to speak to the Warranty Department and a guy named Pete handled the call.

    Talked through the details,.......first registered June 2016, sold to a Triumph Dealership in October 2016 by the first owner, bought by me in November 2016, full service history.

    'No problems' says Pete, 'I'll let the relevant people know and you will have the remainder of the breakdown cover, if you do need help, call this number and quote this reference code, machines aren't under an individual policy, they are on a thing called 'Fleet Cover'.

    ......again, Yahoooooo!, don't you just love a happy ending?......I just hope I never need to call them now!

    .....do you remember my rant about lack of transfer of RAC Breakdown Cover back on 2nd February?.........well, thank fcuk I got that sorted out because for the first time in 47 years of riding bikes, today I got a puncture and needed help to get home.

    Sadly, I was only 15 miles into the ride when the back end went all 'squirrely'....and with luck I was in a 30mph zone going through Avebury (Stone Circleville, in Wurzelshire)........but luckily it was right outside the village pub so I had somewhere nice to wait, with a beer, while the nice man with a breakdown lorry turned up.....if you ever visit the Red Lion in Avebury and you like a proper bitter beer, try the beer on the pumps called 'The Local Well Water'......really crisp and very hoppy.

    Anyway, using the phone number and a reference code given to me by Pete in the Warranty Dept. The nice man was with me just an hour after calling.......he dropped me off back at home since it had gone closing time at the local dealers and tomorrows job is drop the wheel out ready to visit the local bike tyre specialist....with luck it'll just be a new tube....if not, a new tyre as well....mileage to date on that tyre?....... just 849!!!.......

    Got to say......when this cover runs out I WILL be taking out a continuation of the cover for the total security it gives you in getting yourself and the bike home or to a dealer.

    Hi DD,

    ....thanks for the heads up about the potential valve/nicks issue, just about to gather the tools together to go drop the wheel out.....off to the local tyre specialist tomorrow.....If I find anything obvious I will post it up later.

    Also thanks for the advice about taking out a new breakdown cover.

    Yes Bonzo. I remember children of the stones, the whole programme scared the crap out of me, not just the music, they would not be allowed to show it to kids today, afraid of messing with there minds.
    Anyway Dickydido sorry to hear about your punture, Wag had a punture on this forum and he had thicker tube put in than standard as I think his tyre company said it was really thin, check back through. Still there is always the bobber, sore my first one on the road yesterday, the guy was just riding it away from dealers, looked good.

    The wheel is out ready to take to the tyre shop tomorrow.......strangely I found nothing obviously the culprit of the puncture.....I'll speak to the tyre man about thin/thicker inner tubes, many thanks for the heads-up.

    Indeed, by Wednesday this week the Bobber will be in the dickydido stable and a viable alternative if, in the future, the Thruxton throws another wobbly!......really looking forward to it......

    .......have you managed a test ride on the Bobber yet?......it's a real Jekyl and Hyde character.....manic if you are inclined, a real smile inducer or, as docile as an Andrex advert puppy and making you smile yet again but in a sepia picture kinda way....

    .....going forward I reckon the Thruxton better keep an eye over its shoulder if it wants to stay in the 'dido stable!......
