Hi ,first post on here so bare with me .I have a 1050 sprint st and a nice leaking fork seal.could anyone to me the best oil to put back in when I do the seal.cheers noko
You will find it straight forward with a manual, they list all the specs and torques sizes and amounts plus walkthroughs
Thanks for that.I think the standard oil is 10w but not quite sure if its best to go 1 thicker.I am still waiting for my seals to arrive anyway. Cheers
I had a GT and I increased the weight up one. What I thought was most effective was increasing the amount by 5cc. This gave me less dip when I first applied the brake.
ST from 05 to 15, 469cc fork oil level ST 120mm ST oil SAE 10w. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Haynes-M...235747?hash=item2d03244063:g:bz4AAOSwXq5eNBEt
The bike shop reckoned use 15w and fill up with the fork leg fully compressed without the spring in 5 inch from the top.he said top up and move up and down until it becomes stiffer to remove all the air.you probably know all this but just thought I would mention it Noko
It dives a bit when heavy braking ,and also very heavy on the steering, although I've upt the front tyre pressure to 40 and it does seem better. The reason aswell is I have a leaking fork seal so i thought why not have a play .Just trying make it better lat handling like my gazer I had
The thing about nominal weights of fork oil is that they vary between manufacturers. If it matters to you then some experimentation in volumes/air gaps and weights will pay off. I am pretty sure Triumph numbers are based on Castrol lubricants. You can get the manual online.
Hi, just to add a fork question to your topic. From the search I did, the showa fork seems not to need any special tool to be disassembled. Can someone confirm?
I did mine with only a sharp piece of wood around 2 feet long to hold the damper still when I did / undid the bolt. 5cc increase sorted my brake dive, you may find tyre wear and type contribute to turn-in speed/ feel.
Thanks for your answer. If I understand ok, I just need something to apply a pressure on the damper? I usually preload my forks to get a proper feeling. i'll see that later. I'll first change fork oil/seals to start from somewhere
