As I announced a few weeks ago, I just finished a great tour with my wife through 4 european countries. Tour basics: 6. August: Start at home in Austria in the province Lower Austria to the province Carinthia. 2 days off with hiking and family visits. 8. August: Rushing trough Slovenia to Croatia. Visiting Opatija, Pula, Rovinj 12. August: Changing from Croatia to Italy. Visiting Verona, Pescheria del Garda, Riva del Gardea and the Idro Lake. Tour Infos: - Temperatures up to 43 degrees celsius - 2040 km with our Tigers - toll costs €120 for both bikes (without Austria!) Summary: It was a great tour with fantastic impressions. Nothing could stop our Tigers. No bad road, no missing road, no mountain, no rock, ... I will come up with some pictures in the following threads. First Austria (Carinthia)
Marcus So sorry i meant to say your next instalment but put my fingers into gear without my brain what's left of it. That's why I miss Dozers Dad he used to always correct me in time. But that's another story. And now I am envious. I would say you are having a great time and yes it is all stunning loving following this trip. Joe.
Great trip , fantastic photo`s & so jealous i don`t have the time or a Tiger for that matter to do the same. Ive been round most of Europe & for me Austria is just breathtaking scenery with great people & even the kids treat the place with respect (did`nt see litter or graffiti etc). I`ll be buying a house there when i win that bloomin lottery
What a terrific trip you and your wife had, Markus! Thanks for sharing some of your adventures with us through some wonderful photos.
Great photos. Just goes to prove you don't need to wait in an Airport and get onto a plane to have a great Holiday. Just get onto your Triumph and enjoy the freedom.
You are right. Just take your bike out of your garage, start the engine and enjoy the next ride. Every kilometer or mile is great.
We have had many touring holidays on the bike. From UK and up to Denmark. Also over the years across the top of Europe, Holidays in the middle of Europe. I remember we toured into Austria, then into Switzerland and after a few days we crossed over the mountains over the St Bernard Pass and down into Italy. Unbelievable roads. tunnels and good days of riding. We went over into the South of France and stayed near Nice. Came back over the Napoleon mountain route. took 3 weeks. Good memories. I love your photos of your fantastic holiday . Thank you for posting.
Hey Markus you mention 120 Euro in tolls. I last rode through those countries in 2016 and I don't remember paying any tolls. Has something changed? I will be riding there next month so am curious.
I reckon if you stay off the motorways you don't pay any tolls. Except maybe for some of the passes (Grossglocknerhochalpenstrasse for instance).
In Slovenia you have to pay €7,50 for 7 days. In Italy it depends on the kilometers you ride. About € 0,5-1,0 per kilometer. In Austria you pay € 5,50 for a 10 days vignette. All prices are based for a motorbike! Cars are more expensive! If you have lots of time, you can skip the motorways and ride without tolls.
You are right! Your example Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße costs €27,50. Most of the "interesting" routes are toll based!
