Sadly it may be time for a change with my Speed Triple 2011... I've got the dreaded clutch stick and drag while riding and it's getting to the point where it's just pissing me off every ride so I think it will be going I've changed clutch fibres and steels, tried a modded pin then fitted the updated Triumph pin. Put standard levers back on, new cable. Filled with Silkolene Pro 4 and new filter when I fitted the new plates which people said improved their clutch no end but sadly did nothing for mine. It's definitely clutch related as when I clean the plates off they work ace when reinstalled but slowly start dragging/sticking over the week. I've spoke to EBC and Fuchs Silkolene and they could not offer any help. Other than changing the inner and outer basket for nigh on £500 there is nothing else I can try and I'm at the end of my tether with it.
No mate.... Didn't see the need as they are working as in the clutch isn't slipping and when the clutch is cleaned of all oil it works fine I've heard of springs getting weaker and slipping but never getting stronger.... :/ I think it's something to do with the oil not draining off the plates when sitting and causing the drag when riding, I have read that some bikes under warranty had the outer basket replaced but I'm not prepared to chance it at £400 for a new basket
OK, so the plates hold too much oil and as they hold it they start to drag. I've never yet taken a Triumph clutch apart (Sounds like you have quite a few times now ) but guess they have a mix of plates like Suzukis? Have you tried swapping one of the thicker plates for a thinner plate to compensate ? Another possible thing, but I suspect you've probably already checked it, is the oil level, if it's too high it can cause drag.
Yeah mate I can have the clutch apart and back together within 15 minutes now ha ha Checked oil level and if anything a smidge low.... It was new EBC fibre plates and Barnett steels All within spec and stack height within spec All in the correct Triumph order in the manual The outer plates have a very light bit of oil on them when I remove them, Its the inner 4 or 5 that have all the oil and are stuck together The outers separate when I pull the clutch lever but the inner ones stick like the preverbial shit and blanket
Non OEM parts are quite possibly half the problem. I tried EBC plates on my old Bandit a while back, it developed the neat trick of slipping when accelerating and dragging when sat at traffic lights etc Swapped them out for OEM plates, no problems at all. When I was drag racing, virtually everybody used OEM plates even though they were more expensive* and you would get through a set per meeting ! They were far more consistent than the after market items. *funny thing was Hayabusas and Blackbirds use the same friction clutch plates but the Honda ones were cheaper, so everyone used to buy them
It did it with the OEM ones before too mate.... Hence me thinking EBC worth a try instead of £198 for OEM ones....
Just had a look through your posts, looks like you've had some 'fun' with your Speed If it was me, I think I'd clean the plates up and part ex it as soon as I could for something else
hi all are the barrnet steel plates 1.6 mm and 2.0mm thick as thay have an order to go in, so the triumph manual says hope this helps

I imagine you've checked for notching on inner and outer basket? We used to get it on KTM crossers and enduro bikes where cluches had a hard life. Careful dressing with a file worked wonders.
If there's no notching on the clutch basket as old git mentioned check the clutch is adjusted correctly as clutch drag can be down to incorrect adjustment. Have you tried another oil. Some clutches don't function correctly with fully synthetic oils.
Non silkolene in before and it dragged then, All adjusted correctly As posted previous, when I pull the lever the outer plates separate, I think there is a pooling of oil on the inner plates as the bike rest sticking them but nothing Ive tried gets the oil to clear
I really hope you sort this out buddy. I can totally understand your frustration. You bought the bike to enjoy but it's not happening. There are plenty of good bikes out there with performance n handling BUT Triple does that all and she has a character to go with. However as I said if you are not getting what you want out of her then it's time to move on. Do give your best to sort it out before jumping the gun. All the best buddy
