Started in 79 with the FS1E, bit of a gap in the 90's. Best bikes were the RD250LC, the Speed Triple and the current MT10
The old NSU Quickly. A friend of my dad had one and when he used to come round our house for a chat with my dad he used to let me ride it up and down the lane where we lived, I was about 13. Happy days
NSU Quickly, my very first field bike, then given a slightly newer model by a woman at work who lost her husband and it was sitting in her shed. Got my licence for that, did a fair few miles on it too. It had a very thin aluminium alloy right hand engine cover so thin it wore through after the slightest of dents but the silencer was made so thick it was really heavy! The photo is as per my field bike, nice to see.
Ditto H.O. I was about 9ish when me and my best mate were given a NSU Quickly. Spent hours tinkering about with that bike and learned loads through trial and error mechanicing. Happy days!
I had a friend who had a puch maxi spent more time trying to get it to run than riding. He gave up riding after that and got a van where I stayed on my GP100 then upgraded to an older GT125 twin . Passed my test on that and got a Honda super dream . Then a GT 550 followed very quickly to a Gpz 750 then The ZZR 1100 had a number of others after Inc a RF900 then sold it to get married.....the rest is on my introduction to this forum
250 mate. No guts but bullet proof. I passed my test on the GT125 I was caught with the 125 law. Test was a joke all left turns then all right turns then a combo of left and right then the examiner stood out in front of you with a clip board and you had to do an emergency stop.some bloke washing his car shouted to me" his round the next bend!" Then If you got that right , a few questions on the highway code . Flip board of road signs and happy days get yourself what ever you can afford .
It wasnt to i got big bikes that i realised how dangerous the little bikes were . Or was in the nut between the seat and handlebars .......
Passed my first test at 16 on a Fantic six speed moped so I could take my 'bird' on it legally. Passed my full bike test at 17 on a Honda 250 K2. Best bike bargain ever for £40 Great days!
You're absolutely right about both! No power and shite brakes on the bike, inexperience and daredevil attitude in the 'nutter' on it. I remember once trying to overtake a coach on a narrow road in Ilkley, stuck at the side of it with a big van coming straight at me, never know to this day how I got out of that one!
I remember 'pulling' once and offering to take the girl home to which she replied that she was on her menstrual cycle. "No problem, I'll follow you on my Honda 250"
Yep, it was a very long and dangerous learning curve. But we are here to tell the tale I still have the battle scars of macadam but i wouldnt change a thing........well except the arshole who knocked me off my bike and done a runner . Left me with 6 months in Hospital and now i have a new knee.
Nasty! Funny thing pressing the 'like' button when someone tells you they were hospitalised, it was your honesty I liked not the fact you'd been injured.
