......trying to get the red paint for what I thought was a Trophy 1200 1994. First mistake, its a '93, based on the quality control inspectors' labels under the rear light cowl. Not sure if they make it a '93 but that's what the lables and stamps are dated.
next, went to the paint codes list in this forum. Not a lot of help initially as there isn't a cross reference by model or year.
So searching online I find RS Paints, who can be searched by model year etc,.
No Red for '94, so go back to 93, then 92
Bingo! 92 is Lancaster red, 93 Pimento red. Get the codes from the above list, and head off to the local pro paintshop supplier.
Problem one. both paints are flat, not metallic. Took in the cowl and the guy says 'that's metallic..'. I'm not so sure, it does look a bit pearly-ish to me, but not what I'd call metallic. he says, also looking at the swatch on the 'pooter, neither colour is really even similar. Too pink for my rich deep-red pretty-sure-its-original.
Then we can't cross refer by his system, Triumph only after 2004 on his database, and I can see he's not going to spend hours going through his dozens of swatches for a 15 beertoken spray can.
So maybe its a respray, but just not in a Triumph colour. It really doesn't seem so, as underspray and hidden bits of other fairing areas seem to be the same as the top coat.
Maybe I should skip the whole paint code route and make a physical visual match from his endless swatches ?
Any ideas, any one been down the same road?
    Thanks peeps

thanks DD... on reflection I was thinking it was the way to go but got hung up on the code issue ... Also I am starting to think it must be a re-spray after all as it really is a super finish for 22yrs old, apart from where I just threw it down the road....Ho hum only had it a month. The pro-lacquer is the way to go too, I hear from other sources.

Just a thought UJB, but can't you get to the original colour by using the VIN number and contacting Triumph HQ ? Then you'd know for sure how she started out?

Take care with lacquers, some need to be baked. Enquire first

, Back to the paint shop today and going through the best match from the swatches....everything , cars , bikes, planes, boats, the closest hit was triumph cherry red. Cherry red doesn't exist in any triumph lists but its there under triumph paints in the swatch . what the hell its the same colour and I ve gone for it . metallic but what they call mica here, half way between metal flake and mildly pearly sort of. watch this space
