Hey guys I have just fitted my Sat Nav that I got from Aldi the other day. Come to find a switched connection and I see a label on the battery attached to a cable warning that any alteration to the loom will invalid the warranty. I have connected it straight to the battery with the mind that should I leave the bike I will just simply take the sat Nav off its mount. Just wondering what others do, obviously this was the easy option as the battery is at the front of the tank and I didn't want to take the tank and main seat off to thread the cumbersome transformer and fuse to wherever a switched supply may be, if I could find one without altering the loom.

Thinking on I think the sat Nav pops off to sleep at some stage or other, but what do others do ?

My Sat Nav mount is wired straight to the battery on my FJR. When I fit the Sat Nav it automatically switches on but I can switch it off if I like. I just remove from mount when leaving bike. It's been wired for 5 years and never had a problem.

Mine's wired straight to the battery as well,no problems.
Just take it off when not in use.

Wired straight to the battery. Have left it in 'standby' mode on the bike for a week and no detriment to the battery.
But have got into the habit of just leaving the bike plugged into my optimiser. Bike battery in good condition and satnav fully charged always then.

I bought a small fuse connector from ebay using a car flat type fuse and I just remove the fuse for when I am not using the satnav

The one thing that is missing on my R is that they did not provide the optimiser connection, whereas they did on my Street. ...... So that another connection to the battery ( scottoiler and sat nav ) already there !! #gettingcrowding)

Was it the other way around, the switched supply from the horn and the Neg. from the battery.

Can't see the neg switched, not unless it was built back in the 50's. My 1959 Hillman Minx has a positive earth chassis !!!! Kept blowing fuses when my car stereo touched any bodywork around it, casing was -ve and car metal dash, body, frame was all +ve !!!!! Lots of sparks !!! LoL

Don't know how he can have it positive to the battery and have it switch off with the ignition ??? A mystery we ain't gonna solve !

In the world of ac I have known the neutral switched for emergency switching in single phase or 110-240V control systems but it is unusual :) I did electrical contracting for most of my life starting in 1967 :D:D mind you I know jack sh#t about 12V stuff
