just put on a brand new drive chain (triumphs own) and it has a tight spot. I replaced a 'did' gold chain 'cos this also had a tight spot. i can't be unlucky to get 2 faulty ones sent to me. I 'm I the only person this has happened to? can't load video clip to show so i have put it on my facebook page, (type in my name)

    Hi mate and welcome in.

Seriously Neville if that's all you've got to worry about you're a lucky man. Put 500 mls on that and she'll be fine.

Work out if it's tight spot on the chain or does it corrispond with the position of the rear wheel. It could be a eccentric sprocket.

Neville, have you tested the functioning of the chain by putting the bike in gear whilst the engine is ticking over and on it's stand? If it turns smoothly then there will be no problem running it.

thanks all. Checked sprockets teeth they are fine. the eccentric sprocket theory is a worry because it would have to major to cause a hugh deflection in the chain tension, but it's a thought and i will measure the run out. The chain is smooth when you turn the wheel by hand. I have e-mailed the shop wait and see what they say.

done run out of sprocket, hub and wheel while i was at it. i know wheel rim does not effect the chain. All three are round. the tight spot does not coincide with the same spot on the wheel because the chain/link will not line up with each revolution due to the length of chain.

Well you have eliminated that so must leave the chain then.

just uploaded two clips on my facebook page showing the chain deflection when turn wheel by hand and with the motor running, this time i have put a marker on a stick to show better, when the motor is running it is less obvious but it is at low speed when you feel it and when you come to tighten the chain.
