I’ve just bought a small ramp so I can get my bike (when I get it) into the shed.

You're right, I never knew that. But I've never owned a gun or anything like that.

ive got a few for keeping the wildlife at bay here in the ohio countryside where i live. when i lived in california, people had to keep their dogs in the house or the pumas would drop by and haul em off. you carried a firearm out on the grass in case they also got too close to you.

where i live inow theres nothing but foxes, coyotes, bobcats and the very occasional black bear, none of which merit being shot at. anyway if i drove the coyotes off, they wouldnt sing at night.

With Gov surplus 303 ammo being so cheap and decent quality back in the day I didn’t consider it worth home reloading. The cartridges available at the time had some green coloured sealing compound round the primers which I was told was used for ammo to be used in wet tropical/jungle environments to keep the primers dry?
Factory 9mm para, for the Browning pistol, was also quite reasonable, some Israeli produced cartridges which I just can’t remember the name of.
I occasionally bought Federal ammo in .44 Special but reloaded 44 magnum cartridges for the S&W revolver, some full magnum loads, more for fun than accuracy but mostly used a lighter load.
Reloading the 300 Win Mag cartridges was where the money was saved, even after purchasing the primers, bullets and powder, usually Nobel or Vihtavuori using RCBS kit. Experimenting with different loads not added to the enjoyment for me but meant you had more control over consistency.
I have occasionally thought of getting back into the hobby but can’t be bothered with all the red tape, regulation and expense that Iceman mentions above.

We used to shoot on a MOD range on the outskirts of Sheffield, long since closed and now overgrown and unrecognisable. We’d take turns shooting, then working/changing the targets. With the higher powered rifles you’d see and hear the bullet hit the target, then hear the discharge a second or so later. It was a strange experience.
The RCBS scales were incredibly accurate, when you think 1 grain is around 65mg. I sold the reloading gear after selling the guns and surrendering my ticket, sometime around the mid 1990’s I think. I still have the ammunition safe but sold the gun cabinet. I still have some empty cases somewhere and these, 308, 200 grain Spitzer Boat tails. Very accurate with a relatively flat trajectory out to 300 yards and the rifle would spit them out at well over 3000fps. The recoil made the old LE seem quite tame by comparison.

3000 fps is pretty stinking hot.

the sellie r &bellot 196gr stuff i first bought for the 7.92 x 57mm mauser is around 2450. here in the states you can buy gentler loads for these old guns, so i got a a couple of boxes of PPU rounds, rated at 2150.

its going to take some time and effort to sight the mauser in. the original early rear sight doesnt even have a notch below 400 meters, and it goes out to 2000, as if you could see anything that far. i have read that at 100 meters you aimed at the knees to hit at the chest.

originally the weapon was designed for volley fire at distance massed targets, 19th century stuff. 100 meters in trench warfar meant that they redesigned the sight pretty quickly.

Bought a pump up foam sprayer and snow foam from muc-off. Cleaned up not too bad considering how dirty it was from February roads.

The snow foam stuff is pretty good. Below is one of our lads sorting out his and my bike with my K7. You just need to be very cautious on what and how hard you are spraying the various components.

Latest addition to the Milwaukee stable. Could’ve done with this the other day changing the fan belts on the car and saved some skinned knuckles!

I've just bought a (not so) small ramp as my old one cracked after 7 years use.

Just arrived, Ultimate Custom Ear Protection, not cheap, but hopefully I will get to test them out soon.

Are these ones that are made using moulds taken from your own ears?

last year I bought a kit of ear plugs with two or three rows of fins on. A pair for road use and a pair for track use. I still struggle with their use as, being ancient school, I do like to listen to the engine and have probably fecked my hearing as much as I’m going to already. I already qualify for NHS hearing aids but they are a PITA as well.

The other thing you need to be aware of is the link between dementia and hearing loss. So don’t do as I do, wear your ear plugs.

Hi Baza, yes they took impressions from each ear, then sent them to the laboratory to be made up. I had the impressions done while I was at Motorcycle Live in November. I currently have a set of Oxford earplugs, but I wanted something better. I will no doubt know when I get out on a ride, you are supposed to hear a normal conversation with them in, but they cut out the high-end noise from the exhaust, they are specifically for riding bikes, they do them for a variety of users, heavy metal bands, shooting, and motor sports.

I haven't got any personally moulded ones, but love filtered ear plugs, I feel like I can hear the engine better if anything as a lot of the high pitched wind noise etc is cut out and you can hear as you said a normal conversation, sirens, cars that sound like they're not stopping etc!

I haven't needed to purchase ear plugs in quite some time but these are the ones I use every single time I go for a ride. I love them! The primary thing they block out is wind noise which is what I find the most bothersome even with a full face helmet. I can hear most everything else quite well. EarPeace makes ear plugs specifically designed for motorsports and also ones for music/concerts, and ones for sleeping (just in case you sleep with a snorer). ;) They're not inexpensive but as you can see from this Amazon screenshot I've been using the same pair for a couple of years. I think the pair I had before that I probably used for double that. they come with the nice small case you see in the picture and one additional your plug that tucks into a bottom smaller compartment so you always have a back up. When we travel I bring an additional backup set "just in case". One other benefit that I find from these earplugs is that when I listen to music through my Sena headset, it sounds better and more clear than when I don't use earplugs.
