Does not seem to be showing yet but according to the dealer who have finally rebuilt my Speed 400 there will be a recall on bikes due to the cam adjuster failing and wrecking my engine back in September.

I wonder if it covers the Scrambler too? Will have to keep my ears open.

From what I've seen when I drop into the Triumph 400 forum occasionally (don't know why, I sold mine!), this is not a recall, it is a technical bulletin, or something like that.

This seems to mean that the tensioner and cam chain will be checked at service and if out of whack the new design tensioner will be fitted (an easy bolt on item). If the chain has been affected it is obviously a lot more work.....

It affects all (2024?) 400's and if you have any doubts drop into your dealer because they won't contact you when it is not a recall.

Here are a couple of pics from 400 forum - tensioner is viewed from left side after removing a trim panel?

This may let you check if your bike already has the updated unit.

This video has appeared on the Triumph 400 forum - the owner seems to have got a bad one, and now has cam failure.

The time taken to get parts mirrors my experience and could be concerning? You can sense his frustration!

The guy made a fair point about no major media picking up the story, and it's shameful behaviour by Triumph.

Triumph own their manufacturing plants in Thailand but only operate as a partnership with Bajaj for the manufacture of the 400's in India and quality control seems to have slipped there. That guy should have at least been offered a courtesy bike. This is totally unacceptable and Triumph should have dealt with it better and avoided adverse publicity which will put off a lot of potential buyers.

It apparently covers all 400 models.

This could of been me making this video. Bike broke down in Early September, additional issue by the fact that The Washington branch in Sussex closed and the bike was shipped to the Solent branch. Over 4 months later finally had the bike brought to me. New head, all the bottom end rebuilt with new seals, new tensioner of course, not sure what else was replaced. Solent have got Triumph to extend the warranty for over another year so we will see what happens now.

I checked on the Triumph recall thingy but there was nothing showing for my bike. Will call Youles on Monday.

But he's since posted another video. What Triumph did was bloody great in my book.

Good response from Triumph, and hopefully illustrating confidence in the improved parts which are presumably finding their way into new machines.

My 5 months riding a Speed 400 cost me £1500 in depreciation, so I remain slightly bitter about the experience.

On the other hand I know there are many happy owners of what is still a very attractive bike! :)

That's strange as i got a recall from Bulldog even though i don't have the bike any more.

Good that Triumph have extended the warranty, however they still need to address the parts supply issue. Waiting months for parts for a new bike is simply unacceptable.

Rang Youles this morning and Scrambler booked in for cam chain tensioner recall on Friday. The guy said they have done a few and a couple have needed new chains too.
