    Joe, I completely believe it.
It is very sad that this is our society.
Just for the record, I love the UK...the people in it and the values that most have. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity and privilege to live here...but ...the DVLA system is out right bad. Instead of training and uplifting people, it buries them down into a negative quagmire.
It is one thing that California got right and that is the process in which you get trained and licensed (even with the hours long wait at the DMV). Because of everyone here's accent, my lack of accent causes a bit of a stir and I get told pretty much weekly how the American system lets 16 year olds own and ride liter bikes and smash into walls at high speeds....Sounds like the stuff being spewed from the white house press secretary....couldn't be farther than the truth...

This gave me a laugh, and you are so right! We Brits do like to nail everything down with laws and regulations, and God help you if you disagree!! What if you bend or break those rules... well, jail time is usually demanded!!

You may be right about politicians, though I have actually met and dealt with some decent ones.

    But.

The only winners from voter apathy are the extremists...because their supporters are never apathetic.

Personally I would make it mandatory to vote. Even if you choose to spoil your ballot paper it should be counted. If enough people do that in a democracy (a different topic I think!) then that in itself is proof that something in fundamentally wrong.

    Oh, and survey done ;)

Filtering on the 405 felt like one of the most dangerous things I have ever done (and I include several years of combat operations). And I admire your "always wanting to learn" spirit.

Everything that is knackered in Government is still being blamed on Covid. Unless it's more politically expedient to blame it on the previous government, of course.

But I'd be interested to see the stats on how many instructors left the industry/schools closed down and how much demand has increased. I suspect the latter to be a lot of fast food delivery kiddies, but it could also all be BS.

Yeah, going to have to agree to differ here. No (or very few) excellent riders fail the CBT. But honestly the standard of candidates is appalling. The standard of those who pass is frequently pretty low, especially if they're only taking the CBT to allow them to deliver pizza for a while. Also please remember that CBT expires so a lot of the retakes aren't failures they are simply perpetual learners with zero interest in improving...
I've spent a lot of time riding with both CBT and DAS instructors. and have been an advanced instructor myself (still am on track) and their tales of candidate ineptitude are staggering. I did a CBT myself for a magazine article, and honestly struggle to understand how anyone with even a faint grasp of biking could fail it. And yet they do.

And 10/10 for the properly British ending! Your spouse has taught you well :)

Or the other option for compulsory voting ( which I agree should be mandatory) could be a box at the bottom saying, ' I don't wish to vote any of the above'.

Wasn't there a film with Richard Pryor where he ran for office under "None of the above" and got elected?
