My new to me bike requires new rubber not worn out but aged out cracking up it's possible due to the low mileage that they are the originals so are a quarter of a century old. The bike is NOT a Triumph and I am not getting rid of my Trophy 900 the bike is a replacement for my wrecked Ducati 620ie Monster it a 99 Honda Shadow VT600 and yes a totally different type/style the sizes are:- Front 100/90R19 Rear 170/80R15 Have been looking online at what is available, please remember that I am not in the UK but is SE Europe (Bulgaria), so do not have the wide selection available that most of you are used too! Now Maxxis is a brand that I know from the car word and until recently was unaware that they made motorcycle tyres but noticed them listed on a couple of web sites while checking size availability and prices then a member on another forum suggested that I look at them due to the style of the VT600 and the riding that I now do which is mostly gentle cruising around a bit of touring to see the sights for longer trip thee s always the Trophy. I did read the thread on Maxxis from 2019 but am wondering if anyone has more recent experience with them on Motorcycles. Plezier
Maxxis or so I'm lead to believe, is the parent company of CST. I've used x3 sets of CST recently and no complaints from me if used within the design spec as intended (great onroad, poor on wet grass) but I'm talking on/off road patterns here. I've heard of others who have used them and wear rates for a general use tyre were ok. For me personally I would go with a more mainstream make, but if you don't ride all weathers (UK being particularly wet at times, Bulgaria?) and just want a cheaper tyre with this not being a sport bike, then you should be fine.
Well yes I no longer ride in all weathers there is no need for me to do so so why do it? The only time I ride in rain is if I get caught out by the weather this has happened twice in two years. The only off road use is the stone/mud track from the tarmac village road down to the house about 600m the last 75m of which is grass/mud. Also my mileage annually is not high the Ducati covered about 3,500 miles since I got it (US model so speedo in MPH) and have done about 2,500km since June on the Trophy all on A-Roads and B-Roads no M-way use. I think these modern sport and touring type tyres with a slick bit down the centre are pretty crappy on grass the Ducati which is shod with Dunlop Sportsmax GBR300 rubber slips badly on the bit of grass outside the gate even on tickover you really have to be careful or it slips. Done a lot of miles with Maxxis on my ZZR1200, fine. The front gave better turn in than the Contis l had previously. They were sport touring tyres mind, but had 3 or 4 sets so not that bad
not by a long chalk simple things like wiping the top of the fire off causes spikes of pain still restricted to what I can do Doctor says should not use right arm to move/lift more than 2-3kg makes things awkward packs of eco wood bricks weigh 11kg for example. So really should not have lifted the tank off the Trophy yesterday. I am trying to move things around in the closed in end of a barn to make room for the bikes and have made some room but now have to wait until the nephew is free to move the heavier items it's actually his stuff stored in there. Yes I need some glass originally wanted to double glaze but prices were just stupid so need to find somewhere that sells panes of glass The Trophy is parked besides the Rover Coupe that is the nephew's.. As for the tyres well it needs them so there is nothing else for it but to buy them then just wait until March when hopefully surgeon says it's OK to ride again starting on this one as it's lower and lighter than the Trophy so should be easier hopefully the tyres what ever make they end up being will be delivered and fitted in time to take it to registration which should be in 10 days let's hope the weather is going to be good. Just checked a 10 day forecast and it's saying snow for Monday 12th morning Tuesday looks the better day 11% chance of rain and 5C Weds 21% and Thurs 17% temps of 6c,4c,5c cloudy skies. Even though I can't ride I am unsettled just want this done and it here. Then it will driving me mad that I cannot ride it so can't win! . Plezier
@Plezier Please do take it easy. Last thing you want is to aggravate the injury. Take a tip from the @Sandi T book when she had a her spill she just had to bear with it till she mended. Now there's no stopping her. Do hope she doesn't mind me bringing this up. You will get better and you will love your new bike even more then.
Believe me I am trying but it's hard ............................ very hard like I had to bring in more fuel for the fire the eco brick packs are11k yes I weighed one the eco wood logs are 5kg a pack so made several trips to the store instead of just piling the logs on top of the bricks and carrying them in it's only a few meters maybe 10m? It's not the arm that worries me that will heal in time it's the nerve damage my knee is still pretty numb not as bad as the shoulder cannot feel a light touch at all it need decent pressure to be felt but it does give sharp stabs of pain every now and then even if not doing anything just sitting still once the doctors office reopens after the new year he said go see him for referral to rehabilitation I have been using it and can now reach around my back a little so it's not frozen an the neck that took a hell of a whack. They will tell what I can do and must do to get more use back but it's been THREE months already. Plezier
@Plezier It takes time just bear with it. Things will get much better so worrying about hem won't help. I know it is easy for me to say as i am still mobile.
Personally I am mobile just slower I can drive what with PAS and no clutch but slow manoeuvring takes care Monday will drive into the city and finally put the insurance claim in went yesterday but office was closed let's hope that a translator is not needed this time. Will also go to the bike dealers and see when they can get the tyres and what delivery charges if any there are. They were closed yesterday as well. Hopefully the seller will have quotes from his suppliers and delivery times too. No I am not impatient ...................... not really. Plezier
