Bought this helmet about a year ago just before I got the Ducati Mondeter 620ie and on a naked bike like the Monster it's damned noisey even with visor closed the wind howls so had recently been looking at different helmets looking for one that does not deafen the rider but then I bought this Triumph Trophy and riding it has been a revelation the LS2 Rapid 11 is quiet I can even ride with the visor open it's all down to the screen so the Rapid 11 must be a touring helmet the only snag that I still have is that it hurts my ears and it has not broken in and have covered over 3,500 miles on the Monster so far. Will give the helmet a bit longer while we sort out the little bits on the Trophy and see how things go. Plezier
Yes and don't like using them in the past had to use them at work in some very noisy places and did not like it the either. Also used them on the range when shooting but thatwas different . Still fail to see why my old Centurion full face was not noisy like these new helmets seem to be and that bike was LOUD Honda 750FB DOCH running on straight through drag pipes. Plezier
Hmmm I don't swallow that as my Griffen open face was polycrbonate as was the Stadium 9 also open face hmmm the make of my first fibreglass also open face escapes at the moment bought that one from the Kawasaki Centre at Lowfield Heath (they called it Gatwick) but it was actually Lowfield Heath Ohhhh yes it was a Cromwell helmet. Bought the Centurion Firebird helmet from Northeasts the local Honda and Reliant dealer in Horley and I think the shop is still going ran by one of the sons though it is no longer a main dealer like it was back then Rex and Leon tried to keep it going by taking on an Enfield India franchise but that was a disaster due to the really crappy Quality Control of Enfield India in the end Rex told then to shove it and get their crap out of his shop! On another note just came back from a little blat out on the Trophy done 550km now and this afernoon lubed the drive chain which according to the handbook is supposed to be every 300km !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what about touring on the bike having to stop half way through the day to lubricate the rear chain???. Well the LS2 did it's job and now there is no doubt that there will be a replacement this time will spend more and hopefully get something quieter although it's costs a lot more OK over 5x as much am going to take a look at the Shoei GT Air 2 it's supposed to be quiet but am not ruling out others will see what they have that I can try on interest in looking at the Nolan's as well. I have the GT Air 2 and like it, but you still need to wear ear protection as the wind noise can still be pretty loud (as you would with almost helmets I would think).
This is something I find very odd as I never really noticed this wind noise before I stopped riding for all those years my helmet back then was a Centurion Firebird full face and the bike was a naked lowrider/street fighter thing I built of course it was a loud beastie running straight through drag pipes but the noise was never uncomfortable like this wind noise it today. Perhaps have just become an old softie? Plezier
I don't think there's anything "soft" about not wanting to further damage hearing by reducing wind noise. It might be that wind noise bothering you more is due to already damaged hearing? I have tinnitus and wind noise can really aggravate it (only noticeable once I am off the bike) so I will always wear hearing protection. Filtered ear plugs are excellent as the wind noise is reduced but you can still hear everything else around you that you need to.
Have suffered with Tinnitus for decades noisy Engineering workshops was the cause as already had it when I built the street fighter. Also lost some hearing range so the last testing said. Plezier
Give Schuberth helmets a try - I have the E2 which without the peak fitted (effectively makes it a C5) is the quietest lid I've ever had, despite it being modular. And I echo the points about earplugs as I never ride without them now. Lots of brands to try now so one will suit you I'm sure.
Not only are they out of my budgets reach but as far as I am aware they are no venders of them around here and I need to check fit before buying, Plezier
