It seems that it is going to take months for anything to happen insurance wise with the Ducati Monster 620ie Dark that is basically a write off now I don't really need two bikes but honestly when has need ever stopped us???? :D  and have seen that there is a nice yellow 2001 TT600 still for sale and seeing as how Triumphs seem hard to sell here Bulgaria the chances are reasonable that it will still for sale next spring and a lighter bike than the Trophy 900 would be good for more local nipping about and so this doppy seed of an idea has popped up in the ole noggin that buying it would be a good idea. Not sure if I am going mad or not?

The TT600 was not that successful it seems

Mind you what I really would love is a nice twin like a T140/T120 or possibly a BSA A10/A65 but would need to import one of those.

Run, don't walk, away from that TT600. They were notorious for terrible fuel injection and are a nightmare to keep running right. You'll spend more time fixing it than riding it.

Hold out for the twin you really want. A T140 or BSA will be a much more rewarding bike and far easier to work on.

Really? Thank you as I mentioned the doubt about it be sensible was there!

The trouble is that finding something like a classic British twin is nigh on impossible here in Bulgaria as during their hey day Bulgaria was of course under communist rule so it would mean trying to find one for sale in another EU country this would at least make importation less of a hassle than importing from the UK as they are being a bit difficult about UK imports.

The spares for a tt600 are very hard to find and there are many more bad ones about than good ones. They look nice but stay well away.

Understood. Finding one locally is tough.

Look in countries like Germany or the Netherlands. They have a big classic bike scene and are still in the EU, which avoids the UK import headaches. It's your best bet.

Yes I realised that and have since found a couple of web sites that list bike for sale it seems that the Bonnies are really liked in Italy as have found quite a few for sale there some at almost comparable prices to those in the UK and have found listings in Slovakia, Hungary, France, Holland and Germany some really nice ones with accessories even though the earlier carb and air cooled models seem scarcer.

Will have to look into flight costs and work out logistics the airports are at least 3 hours away from home. Buying a trailer and yes have thought of that but that has it's own downsides trailers are registered here and have their own reg numbers which means insurance and municipal taxes then storage space.

Hmmm while making a cuppa had a thought perhaps the small time dealer that the Trophy was bought from may be able to help as the Trophy came from Switzerland?? Well worth asking methinks. Good job there is no hurry

The TT600 that I found listed at a dealers site sparked an interest but I have never really been into sports bikes the price is good an the colour bright yellow is wonderful. Now I have always like Triumphs but I grew up with Meriden and original Triumph twins, Norton, Aerial and BSA so started looking at the modern Bonneville's especially the early T100 790 cc carb models it's a shame they are heavier than the T140's my T140E weighed 424lbs wet the T100 of 2001-2006 the 790cc version weighs 451lbs dry that's 56lbs more than the T140E ok the starter motor adds weight but that quite a it of extra weight and one of Triumphs guiding principles was lighter weight which is why they performed so well against the other makes of the day.

One of the main reasons for choosing the Ducati Monster was it's lack of weight compared to many other bikes but the main reason for choosing a Ducati was that I always wanted one but sadly the 620ie Monster was a bit of a disappointment. In the end it all comes down to budget and what I can actually afford. Here a T100 would cost two to three times what the Monster cost me just looked and you can get one for under 1,500 Euro and for 2,500 euro there is a 2003 Monster 800ie in Red listed if it was a Monster that was thinking of getting this would probably be it as they weigh under 400lbs however my 620ie was for sale as I frankly found it very uncomfortable to ride for anything over about 1 1/2 hours hence looking at others and the T100.

If light is one of your main criteria AND you like Triumphs......surely you need an early Street Triple? :p:).

Already have a T300 Trophy 900 and it certainly is not light and realistically it will be a few months before I can safely handle the weight of it good job it's winter coming up.

So following your suggestion just took a look at the Street Triple did a search for the various years and specs so can compare them it seems that the 2002 955i version is a bit lighter at 417lbs that's near the 395lbs of the T140E (dry) though must say not exactly a fan of the styling found this one:-

    https://www.mobile.bg/obiava-51751776476896318-triumph-speed-triple-955i

Varna is about 3 hours drive from home.it's priced at 2,403 euro as to if it's still for sale when it's time for me to get another bike is the question and of course I really like the traditional look of the T100 ....................... yes I no longer a "spring chicken"

The Street wasn't manufactured until 2007. I think you're looking at Speed Triples which is a pretty different prospect. A quick Google suggests the earliest model of Striple was about 368lb which for me is lovely and light. It's one of the big plus points for me about mine.

Edited for a quick link to an MCN review: https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/triumph/street-triple-675/2007/

I was going to make exactly the same suggestion that Mrs. V. has made as the ST675 is THE IDEAL machine for these circumstances. Light, nimble, quick and VERY good looking ..... though best with round eyes (IMHO) i.e the so-called 'Gen 1' - which should, by age, be the cheaper option.

I THINK first year of production was 2008 though not entirely certain but, regardless, your budget will probably restrict you to an early model. That's no big deal because the first couple of generations were, fundamentally, the same machine with slightly different styling options.

The STreet is light, powerful, stylish, practical, (generally) reliable and, with its light weight, agile handling and powerful revvy triple engine the perfect package. I think they're often overlooked because of the relatively low engine capacity but they are capable of doing anything and everything - even relatively long distance touring if you've got a resilient backside!

This one's a good example of a well priced package if you're not too worried about the Cat C designation - though I suppose that could cause some issues with Bulgarian rules and regs.

Very definitely worth a look locally if there are any around. Good luck - and get well soon.

Dammit not sure what happened by my reply just vanished.

OK yes I was looking at the wrong model :confused:o_O The thing about the styling is still valid though it may be an age related thing but they look unfinished at the front. Then there is the price they are all 3.500+euro and then there s the importation taxes and fees as most of them are not registered here the cheapest one is on UK plates.

Thank you but those listed on Gumtree are a little far away and UK registered and that causes all sort of issues here.

Good idea to ask that dealer. Since they imported the Trophy, they might have leads on a Bonnie too. No rush, see what they say.
