It was my 66th birthday last Thursday, 4th August and I've just realised that I've been riding for 50 years and I still get a buzz when I get my leg over................................the seat Doesn't time fly when your having fun. Dave.
I'm at nearly 40 years on the road and my enthusiasm never seems to diminish. If anything it's increasing! Just got my 1977 GT500 Suzuki running again yesterday after getting crank seals done and while I love modern bikes it's great to get on an old smoker. I hope you enjoy many more years riding, I know I'm hoping to. Only another couple of weeks till I get my first ever Triumph - like a kid waiting for Santa
Excellent post Tiglet Dave - and keep at it. I was 64 last month but only past my test in '96. Love bike riding and since moving to France I get out at least 3 times a week on beautiful quiet country roads with lots of luverley bendy bits !!!
Tiglet Dave - totally agree - I'm 65 and been riding since I was sixteen and still get a buzz every time I go out. What bikes did other oldies pass their test on ? I'll start - 1964 James Sports Superswift 250 twin (that was back when learners could ride anything up to 250 cc!).
My first bike on the road, on my 16th birthday was a tiger cub. Unfortunately it only lasted about a month it's head gasket went one Friday night in the middle of Chester so I had to leave it there and got a lift home on the back of my friends bike. That was after we took the L plates off his Honda cb125 super sport. Neither of us had passed our test. My dad arranged for it to be picked up. I didn't fancy pushing it 16 miles home. After a few days I'd got a Honda cb160 and what a difference that bike was, quicker, it had brakes that worked and it handle well. It was 5 months to the day after my 16th birthday that I took my test and passed on the 160. Dave.

Mine was a 1960 something Cub when to a 250cc on 'Ls'. So as a young 62 year old I've got a few more years to go before I get my 50 up.
I passed on bits of 2 not quite running Kawasaki triples. I had an S1 and a mate had an early KH and I managed to cobble together something that would go long enough to get the test done.
I took my CBT (in 1996) on a Suzuki TS50ER, and then good few months later (1997) I borrowed the instructors Yamaha SR125 to pass the test, then got my proper bike, a Honda CB250 superdream (Teardrop tank type and twin chrome exhausts) Since then I have had a Honda CBF600 for about 6 months and now my Speed Triple.
