I'm thinking of buying a Tiger 800 XCX that was first registered on 10 April 2017. It only has 6000 miles on the clock and in great condition and comes with Triumph aluminium luggage. I've read the the models changed in 2017 so I'm trying to establish if this is a late 2015-2016 model or an early 2017-2019 version The display on the bike I'm looking at doesn't appear to be the TFT version so I'm thinking the bike is a late 2015-2016 not an early 2017-2019. Can anyone confirm for me, also what are your views on this bike and anything I ought to look out for when I'm checking it out. Hopefully I've attached a link to some photo's of the bike. https://yorkmotorbikes.com/vehicles/dn17svt-triumph-tiger-800/
Welcome to the forum. Just check out whether there was a head bearing issue as it's a bit grey, but I seem to recall there were quite a few owners having problems. Torquey motor, but not really suitable for serious off road "adventure" as a package despite the hype, far too heavy and poor ground clearance. A lot depends on your riding ability and what you actually want it for? It does make a nice sit up and beg B road ride though.
It's a nice looking bike but I think the price is a bit higher ok it's got lower mileage and luggage but I'm sure if you look around for that sort of money you could probably get a decent 900 better altogether mine is a 21 with just over 7.5 k miles it didn't come with full luggage just the official top box but it has crash bars heated seats full TFT dash heated grips quick shifter being the GT Pro and I bought that back in may for 8k weigh that up for a grand more than the 800 you are thinking about getting have a look around I'm sure you will find something better
The one you're looking at is a gen 2 tiger, an early '17 reg and the screen, analogue, is the same as the later '67 reg. TFT came in on the gen 3 '18 reg I believe. It is also advertised as a low which generally means lowered suspension and/or seat. Obviously reduces ground clearance if you're taking it off the road, as the side stand didn't get shortened it is liable to roll off if parked on a slight incline. I think you can trawl through forums and find loads of people flagging faults as less people seem to point out positives. I had a gen 1 for about 6 years and the 2 problems I had were the reg/rec going faulty and the stepper motor hot start problem. reg/rec was sorted by replacing with a genuine part, not pattern, and the stepper had a good clean, I think they got rid of them with the gen 2 upgrade. Small things, the chain adjusters can seize, as can the suspension adjuster, if manual, this last is due to most people leaving it on the one setting no matter what the weight carried. I loved my tiger, as said it's a great A and B road tourer, under load it could have done with a bit more power, rectified slightly with gen 2.
@flysplat Welcome to the family. Nice bike and seems it has all the accessories already fitted. I have not read through the replies but do remove your post code asap as it is not good to let some tail rags know your location.
