Hi Triumph Owners. After riding a Sprint ST 1050 for 16 years I have been lured on to the Tiger 800. Basically at 84 years young I was looking for a lighter bike. I quite like it but it will never replace the Sprint. Question. I've done 1000 miles on the new bike and 4 times now the engine has just stopped. Fortunately in town and going slowly. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what was the cause? The fault is being looked into and the first time it was 'no fault found!'.!! Any comments. Bill Lowe
Hi Bill What year is your 800? Unfortunately with earlier models there was an issue with the stepper motor clogging up, google it, and this would cause the problem of cut outs, does it give symptoms of a dead battery but then start again after a few minutes? I gave the area, just behind the injectors a good clean then upgraded to a yuasa ytx20ch battery that had a larger CCA,270 as apposed to 230, and didn't have the problem again. Unfortunately there can be other reasons for these symptoms so it just comes down to luck and trial and error. https://tuneecu.net/Misc/ProblemStepperMotorFailure_mechanical_solution.pdf I didn't go as far as this though.
Crispy. Thanks for that. My 800 is brand new. June 2025. Not quite what I expected from a new bike. I need Triumph to tell what the fault is and how they have rectified it. Bill
Hi and welcome, I hope you get to the bottom of your problem. By the way the sprint st is a fantastic bike, I loved every mile I rode on mine.
@Bill Lowe Welcome to the family. Love the Sprints. Do tap the upload a file button bottom right and show us all the bike please.
Hello, i've been riding this motorcycle for 4.500 KM (not sure how many miles it is). Never ever had the engine to stall. They ECU is programmed to move the rev the engine up in low RPM, as long as you don't pull any brake. Make sure that this is not the case for you.
Hi and welcome, good luck sorting your issue. I have similar on my Street Triple, where the engine will cut at very low speed approaching junctions etc - it only happens very occasionally but nevertheless the fault is there. Triumph deny there is an issue, but other owners report similar and on several models of Triumph.
