only just realised that my speed master will have tubed tyres never even gave it a thought before is there any emergency repairs that you can do to get you home or are you pretty much shafted and will need to be recovered

Slimes worth a try for thorns, nails etc but anything more and it probably needs a new tube.

After repairing six flats on a rented KLR in South America earlier this year I vowed to avoid tube-type wheels in all future bike purchases. It was not the bike I was riding, it was one of my group. None were punctures - was all heat-related, cheap tube and tire related, and too much weight on the bike related.

That said, we were able to replace and/or patch the tubes with what we brought. Breaking down led to meeting some interesting and helpful people along the way. Once on the side of the road in southern Argentina in the middle of nowhere a truck driver stopped while we were fixing a flat and gave us all ice cream!

Before flying down I put together a tool roll that included everything needed to remove the wheels on the bikes we rented, plus patches and a couple spare tubes. Since rubber cement was not allowed to fly, I had to source it in Santiago, Chile when we arrived, which wasn't available at the hardware stores and bike shops that we tried. Finally found some at a bicycle shop.

@bob1 Yes pretty much shafted and recovery is the only way out. Alought there is a company out there that can convert the wheel to tubeless But not cheap. There was a topic here some time ago about it.
