My old Qudumph project I couldn`t finish, due to lack of job and funds. By the law of sod about a month after selling the old girl I manage to get a new job. Hard thing to do in England once you get over 50. So manage to buy a Trophy 900 1992 with in my budget. Bit of a non runner, rusty tank, ignition that turns off by self but not bad for the money. Going to get bike running first then do a similar project but finish it this time. Got myself a ACDC Tig welder, not done any Tig weldng since my 20`s so a fair old time ago. Determined to finish this and get on road for next year. Allowing myself a fair bit of time as not done bike mechanics for a while. Top bike is the old Quadumph 1200 project stupidly sold and lower is new 900. Not bad condition but does need some work
Welcome? He's been here for years. Pity about the old bike, was coming on nicely but good luck with the new project.
Nice of them to welcome me though . Yes determined this time to get this one finished. Such a shame about timing with old bike. Be interesting to see how 900 stacks up against 1200 in performance. Going to get it going first and ride it. Just got a clean tank so going to remove carbs and see if rust been sucked in. Hope not.
Looks like quite an elegant motorcycle. It’ll be interesting to see what’s to be done. Good luck with the refurb.
Just going ton get it going to start with. Then probably cafe racer it. Just got to make sure all is well with engine ect
The old trophy looks to good to chop up I'd be tempted to get it back to fully original as it left the factory to many of our older bikes are lost to customisation that's just my opinion can't really talk with my firestorm and it's paint but I like original manufacturers spend millions in development and we take bits off add bits and wonder why it doesn't run well or doesn't handle well Quadumph make it mint and buy a bobber
No fun in buying a ready made bike, the fun is in making it your own. Mind you that doesn`t always mean that makes it better . Tinkering is alot of fun
I agree to an extent but I would go down the road of buying a bitsa a frame from here and engine from there etc rather than chop a reasonable bike especially looking at your last project the trophy will be far from a comfortable tourer it is now but as I said before that's me and when you come to pass it on what is your ideal is not someone else's where as you will always have an audience for a mint standard machine that's what I want to do with my firestorm except the paint scheme I want it to be the best it can be now I have the Tiger I can take my time and do it properly and not have to rush to get it back on the road but it will be going back on the road as it is a fun ride and plus another reason to keep it my Mrs bought it for my 50th so I have had it 11 years and I can still manage to get my leg over
No intention of passing on once finished because projects are never finished. Last one sold due to no job. Can always get another standard bike to ride around but this one will be a hobby , tinkering bike. Something I enjoy to occupy my free time. each to their own
