    Hello all,

I have had a steamer for a few years now, and wondered if anyone here has replaced the OEM rear shock on a Steamer, and if so what did they think of it? I'm considering changing mine and there are YSS ones available, but they aint cheap so I wondered if there are other compatable ones

    Cheers,

    Arthur

@Arthurp Lots depend on how old is the shock is on there and miles. Sometimes a new shock gives you a better ride and feel. Sure the peeps will be along soon and help you out as for recommendation and reviews.

    Hi Joe,

I thought I would expand the info a little

The bike only has about 40k on it, from the MOT history it had been ridden very lightly for the 10 years previous. The rear shock is a bit sluggish on the rebound and a bit soft. It was dialed to the default setting. I know the Steamers are meant to have a pretty soft cushy suspension by reputation but....

Then I went for a long haul with my girlfriend on the back and some luggage, I'm 100kg, she is about 65, plus maybe another 20kg of stuff on the bike. Even with the setting put to what they should be for that weight and the preload wound right up, I would find about every hour of riding and big enough dip in the road would create enough force to bottom out the suspension (just riding at follow the cars speed, not being silly)

Previous to this I had a MK1 Bandit 600, which I put a GSXR shock on, which also raised it by 4cm, best mod I did on that bike, I also wouldn't mind making the tiger just a touch higher.

    Hope added context helps, :)

@Arthurp If you are not happy with the shock performance. The talk to some one like Hagon shocks who will build what you want and do everything to your specification. I am just using Hagon as they re my chosen shock builder. But there are others around who i am sure do just as good a job. Sure the peeps will pop along with names soon.
