2016 Bonneville T100 To set the oil fill level, should the bike simply be leaning on its kickstand, or placed vertical? The Maintenance Handbook doesn’t say and it makes a big difference in the sight glass !!
Vertical. Fill it to the level run for a few seconds then let it settle and top back up to the level.
Thanks for your response Joe. And I beg your pardon: In the Owner's Handbook (p.69), there is not a whisper about bike position. However, in the Service Manual (Lubrication System, p9.9), it says "The motorcycle must be level and upright when checking the oil level." I just caught that and stand corrected. And btw, I made a very nice jack for lifting and stabilizing the bike at any level.
@MoreCowbell No problem. The second check when you have filled and ran then let it settle is i you have fitted the new oil filter when you run it the filter fills up and level adjusts a little. The wating is so the oil can return from places like the head and cams. Glad you are getting sorted and a good lift is a great asset.
